Guest guest
Dear Chayadevi and the non-assembled vaisnavas, I think if we make a viable alternative to breeding, we may get PK's cooperation. If not, and he still refuses for no good reason, then we can get heavy about standards. Presently I think that probably donations would bring in enough for feed. But due to past neglect over a long period of time, it is necessary to improve things for the cows. The barns need to be expanded to reduce crowding, water tanks constructed, as the ground water contamination is high, and land purchased for future security, but that is a VERY high cost. That is PK's goals, which he sets out, and in this way, attracts people to donate. But these goals are not showpieces, they are necessary for the cow's welfare. Now if we cut out breeding, and stop the milk money coming in, the donor money would go into maintenance only. Which is OK once these things are done. But will people to donate simply to maintain? Are they that much in goodness, that they are happy to see their money going down a cow's throat? Maintenance is in goodness; Expansion, passion; Neglect, ignorance. Even as donors, there is sometimes a business mentality, which we shouldn't encourage. They want to know things like how much milk the cows are giving, and is there some improvements happening from my donations? It takes a peaceful, non-fruitive mentality to donate simnply to support a cow. Love is what it takes, actually. I think in this respect, Adopt-a-Cow should be the focus for Vrindavan, instead of improvements to the goshalla, as a way to attract donors. If this is done after the necessary improvements have been made, then enough money should be coming in for maintenance, to cut out breeding altogether. We can either WAIT until these improvements are done, or get the leaders to provide funding for them. Then the breeding could be cut out right away. The temple mangaement though need to agree to this. There is hardly any cow's milk available at the market in Vrindavan, it is all buffalo. When I suggested stopping breeding, they all said "And the Dieties will have to be offered buffalo milk" So that's a problem too. Personally I think it's the lesser of two evils. Krsna surely does not take pleasure in being offered milk that is the result of putting the calves' future at risk. your servant Niscala _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
