Guest guest
Just noticed an abstract for an article in New Scientist (5/10/2003, vol. 178): ********************** ALL HOOVES TO INDIA'S PUMPS by Andy Coghlan Abstract: Bullocks will soon be helping Indian villagers purify their drinking water instead of pulling ploughs. The animals will supply energy for a desalination system that will provide clean water to villages with no electricity. Marine Chemicals Research Institute in Bhavnagar, India have worked out how to replace the motor with animal power.A spokesman for the Intermediate Technology Development Group, a charity in Rugby, England, says the device holds great promise for the 1.2 billion people around the world who lack clean water and electricity. ********************* Is there any one on this conference who is in India and can tell us about this ox-powered desalination system? your servant, Hare Krsna dasi
