Guest guest
all glories to srila prabhupada all glories to gopala i just read 192 letters in the gopala conference in two sittings i have no practical experience with cows so please forgive my idealism i know you share it otherwise you would not have objected so passionately to carol's comments about srila prabhupada and the practicality of burning castor oil srila prabhupada says krishna cannot be satisfied where cow protection is lacking the happiness of the cow and bull is reflected in human society i remember way back when madhava ghosh said the price of milk was $7/gallon unless it's subsidized by blood this is the math is krishna satisfied by two gallons of milk at $3.50/gallon or one gallon of milk from a protected cow? the earth and the cow are both our mothers and us naughty boys want to take from her purse and go buy an ice cream we are all trying to to exploit the resources of material nature but we are becoming entangled in her complexities we are all trying to enjoy prakriti and the essence of bhagavad gita is to try to please krishna's senses instead of our own material senses so understanding to whom things belong we try to take less from prakriti but we still take how can we give to prakriti? service to our mothers perhaps instead of the raping of her daughters wealth means land and cows iskcon has land and cows govardhana means increasing the cow and also increasing the earth radha krishna's composting formula increases what the cow gives us seven from one composting creates land out of waste land is wealth waste (interesting term) we need to make long term investments with krishna's land crops that have quick returns trees (long term investments) the ash and the cuttings and the leaves are the interest that our investment yields the cow keeps everything antiseptic with her pure dung and urine the vibration of the happy cow the protected cow is unique in the world much like a mridanga skin plays like no other drum 10% of every devotees livelihood ought to be re-invested in the cow and earth of course it's really paying back her investment in us she gave us our bodies dead though they may be and if we exploit her to make ourselves beautiful then we will live in an ugly place better we exploit ourselves to make her beautiful and at the same time think of krishna i know my karmic debt to the mothers and i'm not so interested in her milk i.e., what i can get from her as what i can give to her at this point i understand that engaging her in krishna's service is of utmost importance no one wanted to provide the jews with a homeland either let hitler deal with them if we help her escape maybe gopala will let us escape when we're in a concentration camp if you don't see krishna at least you'll see lakshmi who knows what you've taken from her we have all the tools we need to increase the earth's wealth to participate in the govardhana what's the problem mathematically speaking? can we afford a milk tax on all the milk that devotees drink? can we afford a pollution tax on all the fossil fuels we burn? planting trees to reduce pollution and to capture the sun's energy what to speak of it's a "pious activity" might make our sankirtan efforts purer in other words: the temple used 384 gallons of gas in december so we have to plant 12 trees to replenish the earth because we took her blood (oil) let's take from the earth but not steal like the u.s. dairy farmer or like the ravana of past i understand the problems of business prabhupada said they are: land, labor, capital, and organization as we have been discussing iskcon iskcon has some of all of the above and i think that we can use those resources to protect the cows on behalf of the cow protector and that's the reflection i'd like to see ram prasad sun above earth below krishna's grace in between a plant grows toward the sky who's blackish and bluish although entangled in the earth the goal is clear pray for rain lord chaitanya is a gardener

Why so few wish to hear it? If we couple this wisdom with this from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati...: "People are usually too much busy with mental speculations. They should relieve themselves of this and try to find out the real good of their own selves or souls. There is an adage to the effect that para-carccakera gati nahi kona kale, "a man who is habituated to criticise others' conduct will never prosper." Let others do whatever they like, I have no concern with them. I should rather find fault with my own damned mind, and think like the Vaisnava Mahajana who sings: amara jivan, sada pape rata, nahi punyera lesa, para-sukhe duhkhi, sada mithya-bhasi, para-duhkha sukha-kara Ever engaged in vicious activity, And without the slightest trace of virtue in me, A liar as I am, always sorry at others' pleasures And merry at others' sorrows, troubles and cares." ============ REF. A Lecture in Calcutta .....then our movement might actualy start to make a difference again, like it did when Prabhupada was personaly directing us. Take responsibility for our place, and understand that all the problems lie within ourselves. OK others may do bad things, but what can WE do about THEM? Nothing, but ourselves, we have the power, by Krsnas Grace, to look ourselves squarely in the face each morning, recognise our faults, and work on them. Its all about personal responsibility. Thanks Ram Prasad prabhu for sharing your essential realisations. YS Samba das
