Guest guest
Dear Niscala, Perhaps the lack of general participation is not a lack of interest but rather an expression of discussion exhaustion. As you may be aware these points circle quite often on the conference. Some points I would like to share: Any breeding programme that requires multi person free labour will not work in our current social and economic climate. Any breeding programme that does not motivate by livelihood, I think, will not work and will simply postpone the problem to the next generation or nearly next generation. Breeding impetus must be based on the need for working bulls to have any relevance to the ISKCON cow world. We can see again and again the anxiety and concern non bull based breeding programmes bring. We see neglected bulls and sent away bulls when they were not bred for. Major contributions to the ISKCON cow protection world will be livelihoods dependant on the bull and ox. Whilst there are different cow breeding models that can be considered eg small family and large goshalla, they both end up with oxen. Until the ox side is significantly done any breeding will be unsustainable or unbeleivably subsidised and irrelevant to the general world. In one letter Srila Prabhupada expresses dismay that how will cow protection go on if the vaisyas open factories rather than facilities for cow protection. In our society there seams hardly a vaisya making a living from ox power and cow protection. Until we can demonstrate livelihood based on ox power what is our message to the world regarding a simple ox dependant lifestyle. My suggestion to you is if you want to make a significant contribution to this generation and the next generations then help establish livelihoods or at least one livelihood dependant on the ox, in this way the cow breeding and resultant milk produce will automatically take care of themsleves. In the Bhagavad Gita Krishna says Krisi/cultivation with oxen. then Go rakshya/cow protection and then vanijyam/trade. To get the ox farmers going they need a market to which they can supply there premium priced products. That is the domain of the administrators and merchants ie ksatriyas and vaisyas. If we can demonstrte how one farmer using a team or teams of oxen can support his family that will be very significant. The ox farmer needs a house, a place of work and security. He or she is not ar risk of losing there investment irespective of slipped brahmincal lifestyle. ys syam

The existence of those types of vaisyas is inevitable, but they must purify their wealth by supporting cow protection programs. > > In our society there seams hardly a vaisya making a living from ox power and > cow protection. A toothless charade, a mockery of brahminical life, constantly teetering on disaster.
