Dandavad. Prabhupada kijaya!

The following is from the last meeting of the PCC (a group of senior India

leaders who plan and coordinate the meetings of the India TP's). It seems

there is some progress.

Your servant,

Pancaratna das

Cow Protection

The PCC heard a report from Ramanuja Prabhu stating the many ISKCON temples

in India are not adequately protecting the cows, bulls, and bullocks under

their care. Most ISKCON centers are not even aware of the cow protection

standards that have been established under ISKCON law. Most centers' primary

motivation in keeping cows is for milk production, whereas according to

Srila Prabhupada's instructions the primary motivation should be setting an

example of cow protection as part of our preaching work, with milk

production as only a part of that.

It was decided that:

1) There shall be a presentation made at the ICC meeting in November

that will focus on educating the all-India leadership in the proper conduct

of cow protection.

2) There should be created a network of devotees trained in the ISKCON

cow protection standards that shall travel to the various ISKCON centers

with cows and educate the devotees there on these standards, and assist them

in complying with the standards.

3) The ICC should consider legislation banning any further purchase

and/or breeding of cows at any ISKCON center until the cow protection

program at that center is in compliance with ISKCON law.

A temporary subcommittee was created to function up until the coming ICC

meeting to:

1) prepare the ICC presentation;

2) attempt to recruit devotees for inspection and training work; and

3) prepare draft legislation for consideration by the ICC.

The members of this temporary committee shall be Ramanuja Das, Prem Kishor

Das, Devamrita Das, and Bhaktarupa Das, and they may co-opt others as

desired.

Sounds like these guys are headed in the right direction and maybe the best

thing would be to have a resolution supporting their recommendations, and

have some input on what they recommend.

There are just so many proposals we can make. Do you mean in place of the

Mayapur one?

I guess that is waht I mean. Then someone else is actually making the

proposal, we are just endorsing it.

Then you only need to make 2.

One for funding, and one to limit land dispersals to those with Ministry

approval until a comprehensive land proposal can be made the following

year.

Here's another concept, the ICC meets in November. After that meeting it

would be known if the recommendations or what recommendations were accepted.

If number 3 espescially was accepted, do we need the Mayapur proposal and/or

should we ask the committee to include something about Mayapur in their

presntation. it seems to me that if the ICC accepts most of these

recommedations, that they are in the process of taking care of their

backyard and our proposal may even be a hinderance? The deadline for the GBC

proposal is December 1.

Dandavad. Prabhupada kijaya!

I just met with Nanda Krishna, the vet who helps with the Mayapur goshalla

and prepares the reports. He said they have now completely stopped giving

away any more calves or other cows or bulls. I asked him and Gour Hari who

is the goshalla manager (Radhadyuti is his Dept. head but he is in VRindavan

right now) to sit with me and make a proposal for sustainability of the

goshalla with all standards in place.

I think that this work, plus the efforts of the ICC should be enough. I

suggest you wait to see the results by the end of this month. I will be in

the ICC meeting and can report.

Your servant,

Pancaratna das

Thank you so much! This is a wonderful service you are doing. Let's all pray

that the ICC will see the importance of accepting most if not all the

recommendations that the committee is presenting. It is much better if the

local devotees take care of the situation (that is the best way) instead of

GBC proposal from on high. We look forward to your report.

Your servant,

Chayadevi
