Guest guest
Dear Pamcaratna Prabhu, PAMHO AGTSP Sorry but in my mind the figures are still not clear. If one is breeding 67 cows per year to get 50 cows milking then the herd total over 18 years will be 1206 animals in total. If we accept a 5% mortality rate before old age then the herd Total will be 1146. Whether they are cows or bulls doesn't matter because the number of animals that must be maintained is still the same i.e. 1146. On a related point why should RadhaMadhava not have a large herd of cows? When the Mayapur city will exude so much opulence why should that opulence not include a large protected herd. 1200 animals is not that large a herd when you consider that Mayapur city will have 10,000 residents. Whilst I can appreciate the need to build a cow protection system within the local cow herders, that should be side by side with the mayapur herd. As we all know the milk yield even from 50 cows will not be enough to supply all the city requirements. I would therefore see a parallel approach in that there is a significant sized goshalla arrangement belonging to RadhaMadhava, and at the same time there is some economic arrangement with the surrounding cow herders that supports their Cow Protection. In the mean time why does Mayapur not establish systems to give work to their oxen rather than have a management system that sends them away. If Mayapur is only for the Indian people then perhaps seeing oxen working and cows protected will not be that interesting because every one is supposed to be seeing that all the time. If however Mayapur is the world headquarters and its visitors are internationals then Mayapur had better start taking their OX work and Cow Protection seriously. When Srila Prabhupada warns us that if we do not work the oxen we will think about killing them, then we can only think of Mayapur and see the result of not working their oxen and establishing a management system that arranges for somebody else to do the killing. If the locals are not farming and transporting with oxen then they are killing them. From that view point alone it should be very clear to any vistor to the Mayapur area that it is very unlikely that they are not killing or arranging to kill their oxen. The Maypur city management have some way to go to reasure the ISKCON Cow protectors that they are seriously concerned with Cow Protection. ys syam
Guest guest
Dear Shyamasundar It is nice to have lots of milk, but first there must be sufficient land to support the offspring, and a sound economic plan to engage all the offspring. Until that manifests, breeding should be zero. >>>In the mean time why does Mayapur not establish systems to give work to >their oxen rather than have a management system that sends them away. No if anything it is more important ther than here, Indians are aping the west. We should have massive propaganda there that us westerners see a whole lot of value in the original Indian farming system, in terms of sustainability, and long term value. We should have on display, stuff about our farms around the world- showing plowing with oxen (though we don't do it- aynway, we should weigh up the virtues and vice of that one) I wonder though if Mayapur can compete with buffalo- they seem better suited to a wet climate. Anyway, I think it is absolutely essential to take advantage of urione-based medicines, and the different ways that dung can be maximized in its use, as described in Dung is GolD mINE. If good profit is being made by these other things, then that may make it as profitable as tractor farming. Then one just has to make the ethical and ecological choice- and it is clear that protecting cows is in favour of that. ys, Niscala _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
