Therefore, one of the most important factors in breeding or acquiring animals is to consider the temperament of the animals. Practically speaking, if the cows or oxen are feisty and dangerous to work with, then devotees will quit their service and not milk or plow with the disagreeable animals. So you must get animals with an agreeable temperament. Energetic is okay -- as long as workers are experienced enough to channel it in the right direction. But nasty will ruin your program. Having said all that, I have heard a number of reports (such as from Murari Sevak and I think Florida) that cross-bred Taurean/Indus breed cows -- such as the European/Zebu cross your vet suggests -- are very, very disagreeable to work with. Your vet, no doubt is quite experienced, and can deal with any type of animal -- but this is probably not the case for an idealistic devotee coming from the city. Be sure that you get the kind of animals that the devotees there are comfortable working with. From what I have heard, Brown Swiss can do well in a hot climate -- if they are from stock that has been there several generations. I don't know about the rest. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi >Or >would Zebu on its own be good, though Varsana is cold?
