Guest guest
(following is part of an exchange between myself and Kalavatidevi, where I asked her to reconsider what I had written and she did and returned a critique, the quoted portion being the end of her critique. I had snet this in and it got retruned, she then responded to this as she was cc'ed but she can decide if she wants to send that to the conference) > Anyway, now that I've gone on even more, can you tell me if I understood what > you were saying in your post? Pretty close. If we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat. No offense intended to Rabinrananth, but being a sufferer of PTSD (Post "transcendental"ized stress disorder) i probably overreacted to his extremely idealistic mission statement. Kirtanananda Swami didn't start out overtly off. Even Srila Prabhupada visited here and told him to develop NV to his heart's content and that all the devotees should just do what he asked. That can lull you into a place of being vulnerable. He descend was gradual, but it was always with the goal of having the best Deity worship in the world. Naturally, he would dismiss any temple outside of ISKCON as being contaminated by mayavadis, run by caste brhamans, or merely cultural centers. So then it was simply a matter fo being better than anyone in ISKCON. To oversimplify. the whole temple building thing, that gradually overshadowed and then smothered cow protection, was premised on "best" Deity worship. Temple building required funds, that required separating the children from the parents (supported by scripture, including the quote within the last week from Rabindranath about kids being sent to the guru) and the operation of a gurukula. Introduction of tractors to free up labor for temple construction. Can you see where that would be a bit of a button for me? As for rhino hunting, one aspect of that is that it IS possible to bag a rhino. Not every fantasy or vision can be justified by that.example. For instance, suppose I say I want to hit 800 home runs in Major League baseball, and start at the age of 50 to attain this goal. That is not hunting the rhino. (the current record is around 750, and only 3 have ever hit 700 or more). I think Rabindrantha has a good idea, establishing a college, but trying to simultaneously have the best Deity worship in the world? Now, to say he wants to have Deity worship on the highest possible standard, that is something else altogether. Maybe he justs needs a good editor. Guest guest
Here's the email I sent (which bounced) that Madhava Gosh Prabhu is referring to. ----------------- Dear Madhava Gosh Prabhu, Thank you very much for your latest post. You shared a lot of important information. I especially liked your PTSD term! I know it is not just a joke, it's real, but a little humor is always nice. Regarding the Deity worship standards, you have some helpful cautionary points. I don't know if anyone here read Gopal's article (last year - Chakra & Dipika) about how serving the cows and working the land IS Deity worship. Maybe that idea - envisioned, stated and acted upon directly - is something that could guide a project. It makes sense to me that places like Hungary (New Vraja Dhama) and Radhadesa (the college) would be glad to share information with organizers of new (or old) projects.
