Dear mother Hrimati prabhu,

Hare Krsna! Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila

Prabhupada.

I'm just wondering why you (or anyone really) would use a petroleum-based

emollient on the teats of your cow, when any such ointments that we rub

on our or animals skins, is obviously absorbed into that skin. Could you

please explain? Thank you. Hoping you are well I remain,

Dear Ganesa Prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances. _/\o_

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Thank you very much for your inquiry and concern.

This particular bag balm has been the only stuff so far that is preventing

my cow from getting cracked nipples (especially in the cold season).

Here in Mayapur the local milkmen use mustard oil as a lubricant for

milking.

My cow has very tiny nipples (ask Balabhadra Prabhu). It is very hard to

milk them without any lubricant. As mustard oil is liquid, naturally the

oil sometimes also drips into the milk bucked during the milking posses,

which alters the taste of the milk :-).Besides that, the oil does not do

anything for the cracks. The bag balm however, not only makes an excellent

lubricant but also cures and prevents the cracks. For that reason I like

the balm so much. It is made specifically for the purpose. Last year

Balabhadra Prabhu brought me some and it is finished now. So, that is why I

would like to request anyone, if they are coming to Mayapur to please be so

kind and bring a can (or two, or three) if they please.

Hare Krishna!

Hoping this will meet you in the very best of health by the grace of

Krishna.

Your humble servant,

Hrimati dasi

Dear Hrimati prabhu

You can use ghee. We use ghee all the time on the cow's teats. If you

need it be more medicinal for sore teats, crush some neem leaves or marigold

flowers , boil in the gheee and strain.

There is an ayuredic medicine called mahatiktak ghrut which is excellent

for sores etc, Its meant for humans and its costly. Its ghee and herbs,

namely mahatiktak which is a good herb for skin problems. Its good for

tender places like the udder. But ghee should be all you need

Sounds good.

I once found some recipes on the internet for moisturing creams using bees

wax, oil and herbs. I dont have them right now but they seemed easy to make,

it would be worthwhile to look something like that up, if you have time. The

beeswax makes the consistency a little less greasy it seems.

I have found fantastic results using plain yoghurt as a treatment for burns.

It immediately cools the burn, and moisturises it as well. But I guess

probably not appropriate for your problem with the udder.
