Guest guest
It would be nice to compile (if it has not already been done by the cow ministry) a list of the head cowherds for each temple/yatra that has cows/bulls along with their contact information, whether that be direct or via their TP. Just as it must be possible, through some PAMHO conference, to contact all ISKCON TP's, it would then be possible to contact each herdsperson throughout the movement and gather information directly from the source. This would bypass the need to rely on the local gbc's or tp's to assess the cow/ag situation and provide statistics -- which is has so far been completely and totally unsuccessful (Disclaimer: This is not to let them off the hook, but in the mean time, we need reliable information to move forward and to become a more organized/powerful force). This would also have the added, inspirational benefit of letting the herdsperson know that a greater (as in larger/external) group of devotees is concerned about their service and situation and that they are counted (and being held accountable). It would assure them that there is a group that represents them. They could also file grievences directly to the ministry when/if their authorites are interfereing with the function of the Ministry (that being to improve the standard of Cp/Ag). Does the Ministry for CP/Ag have it's own website? It would be nice in the long run, and as resources are available to have a separate website for "ISKCON Ministry of ..." that is official so that members and/or donors could go to one online place for reliable information on the state of individual programs/projects as well as the entire state of cp/ag in the movement. Unfortunately, I currently don't know anything about setting up or managing web pages. But I do have other computer experience/database management (access)/excel/word/data entry/correspondance/etc... Once set up, if the entry system was web-based (seems like it could be), I would be willing to do as much work as I can compiling, organizing and entering information, as well as networking with other devotees. Especially when my insomnia kicks in, I can be quite efficient in these things. Just more thoughts. ys - Gopal dasa
Guest guest
Is there a functioning ministry? If not, why not do the job ourselves? Seems that waiting for others to act might just be futile. And why should we expect someone else to take the initiative when we are the ones who have the desire to see something positive happening? Sure, some funds would be nice; but if others are not generating them for use in this service, maybe we could. I remember, in the mid-70s, becoming so much attracted to the New Vrndavan community because of an article in The Mother Earth News, I began corresponding with the devotees there (my wife and I had had no direct association at that time), and eventually becoming a life member, sending my "tithe" of $250 a month to that community. Incidentally, we were "all alone" in Oak Ridge, TN. Within a couple of years, we had moved to Radha-Kalachandji Dham, in Dallas. I wonder how many persons there are today, who have outside jobs, but no farming community close by. My gut feeling is that there are those who would be willing to help fund farming projects, if there were an organization that could guarantee proper use of their contributions. Why spend time talking about what others are not doing for cow protection, when we could (or should) be making something happen, ourselves. "You may say I'm a dreamer; but I'm not the only one."
