Guest guest
Is it offensive to ride on the back of an ox? Or if that is so, then would it still be better that they are being used for that, then they be just sitting around doing nothing and thus one is thinking that better to get rid of them? I saw one web site (Riding Steers.com) where they put saddles on them and ride them like horses.
Guest guest
Lord Shiva rides an ox (or bull), but as a Vaisnava, he does other things that we can't or shouldn't immitate. I once had a dream in which I was riding my ox (Pita). It was nice and he was like my best friend; this had me wondering about this subject. In the end, I figured that even if it were bonafide, it wouldn't be worth the stuggle to convince other people (esp. devotees) that it were. Without a black-and-white quote from scripture, there would be constant argument - it would be easier to take the bus or ride a bike. I figure that as the bull being the father and the symbol of dharma, it would be an offense for a devotee (or someone in knowledge) to do. Cowboys (the western ones) have so much bad karma coming that it probably wouldn't make a difference. Guest guest
I think the ultimate consideration should be practicality. If it is practical and can be done in a nonabusive way, there should be no reason not to do it. My personal opinion would be it isn't practical. I am getting a groin pull just thinking about doing it. Seems the back of an ox is a lot broader than a horse. Plus I can walk as fast, or faster, and as far as an ox, so why go thru the botheration. What to speak of all the extra training. Doesn't seem worth it. Bike would be much faster and easier to deal with. Or running. Only reason to have an ox along is to haul stuff, so just ride in the cart in that case if there is excess capacity and save all the trouble of the training.
