Guest guest
Dear Hare Krishna dasi, Please accept my humble obeisances. _/\o_ All glories to Srila Prabhupada! actually the point I was trying to make was not of selling more milk. Just that if the karmis can use our Land to make a profit, than why don't we use the land and grow something else besides hay that we can use and sell the excess. Here in Mayapur luckily the people who will cultivate the excess land are all devotees. For example today I was trying to find the best deal for purchasing rice straw for my cows. ISKCON Land and agricultural department made a deal with this particular devotee, that he can use the land to grow the rice but has to give the rice straw to the Goshalla cows. He said that if I want to buy from him I will have to ask the goshalla if they can spare some straw. However, it looks like that this year we have to get the straw from Tahir's older brother. I am always trying to get the straw from the guy that uses less chemical fertilizer and does not spray with pesticides. For next year I will try to get some Land to grow rice and will give most of the rice back to the temple, but keep the rice straw. While I was talking to those villagers today, I found out an interesting thing. In India as in many other parts of the World, the price of the petrol has gone so high, that the Farmers can not afford the diesel to run the Tractors and diesel motors which pump up water from the wells for their rice fields. So this is why this year the farmers in this area did not grow so much rice, instead grew crops like Peanuts etc., which does not require so much watering. Also in the Ghosh village, they used to have only 6 pair of bullocks. But now there are 20 sets of Bullocks. More and more Farmers are selling their tractors and are buying Bullocks. About weaving...here in Mayapur at the Rajapur ISKCON Jagannath Mandir, the devotees are weaving nice dhotis and gamchas. These pure cotton handloom dhotis are perhaps the best quality dhotis you can find in India :-) Actually I am pushing for the developing of the cottage industry here in Mayapur. Krishna some how has put me a few years ago in a situation where I did not have any source of income not even a place to live or any food to eat. I have 4 dependent children. Somehow some one gave me a sewing machine and than I used the last money I had to make a Krishna doll and sold it. Than I made two dolls and sold them etc. than some one came and ordered 100 dolls and gave me a down payment. And in this way we started Gopal Soft Toys. Today We are self sustaining and are supporting 3 families. My cows are supported by milk sales. she gives 8-9 liters. 3 to 4 we use and 5 we sell to devotees. Somehow I just want to live a simple life, take care of my cows (and oxen) and chant Hare Krishna. Isn't this what it is all about? Hoping this will meet you in the very best of health by the grace of Krishna.
