Srimad Bhagawatam Canto 3. ch 31 text10

Thus endowed with development of conciousness from the seventh month after his

conception, the child is tossed downward by the airs that press the embryo

during the weeks preceding delivery.Loke the worms born of the same filthy

abdominal caity. he cannot remain in one place".

In the purport Srila Prabhupada says that the worms are described as " sodara"

which means " born of the same mother" " Since the child is born from the

womb of the mother and the worms are born of the fermentation of the womb of

the same mother, under the circumstances the child and the worms are actually

brothers. We are very anxious to establish universal brotherhood among human

beings but we should take into consideration that even the worms are our

brothers , what to speak of other living entities Therefore we should be

concerned about all living entities."

Srila Prabhupada would like us to come to a higher platform. Unfortunately

after reading this verse today I had to to put crushed sitaphal leaves in a

wound on a cow to remove maggots. They fell out dead and any remaining were

removed with long tweezers and thrown out so that is that. They have to be

immediately destroyed. Hare Krishna. ys Labangalatika dasi

Again, it's so important to remember that sometimes killing is the

legitimate response to certain threats. That's why countries have

armies, to protect their citizens. Similarly, towns maintain animal

controll officers, so that if necessary, they can kill animals who have

become a threat due to rabies.

So if these maggot worms you saw are a threat to the animals,

unfortunately they must be killed.

In the March 1974 varnasrama walks, Prabhupada said that when there is a

threat, a soldier must be trained to kill if necessary, he said, "if

necessary they must kill -- not that "Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna" they will

simply sit on the ground chanting." So sometimes killing little insects

and pests is necessary to protect our cows.

Thus, you are not to be condemned, but lauded for your devotional

service. Even though smashing worms is not at all pleasant, still Krsna

appreciates that you are doing it to protect His cows, and certainly not

for your own sense gratification. And also, no doubt the worms heard

the vibration of "Hare Krsna" at the time -- which was a more auspicious

end than they would otherwise meet.
