Guest guest
Haribol My oldest cow,. Laxmi, left her body on the 10th in the evening hearing Srila Prabhupada singing. Unfortunately it was not entirely due to old age even tho she was 20 years and walking very slowly. because she had an accidental fall in the charkan or manger and couldnt get out till early morning when we found her. Then she couldnt get up although we called the wondedrful old man who sets bones and who said nothing was broken and that/ we shouldnt try to make her up till she was able/ He gave us herbal medicine. the vet gave her saline drip with their medicine in it but it didnt help her. I gave homeopathic medicines but it didnt get her up but must have eased the pain. She was sitting, eating fresh grass and daily dahlia or soaked cracked wheat, and we placed sacks full of dried leaves (as we were out of straw ) behind her so she could lean on them , We turned her twice a day and put aloe vera on her sores and neem powder and calendula mother tincture, We burned dried cow dung and dhoop to keep away flies. My friend Supriya who used to be in charge of SPCA Mumbai told me to make the big sacks of straw for them to lie down on so the animal whether horse or cow can find it easier to get up; and how to make a hoist with a pulley and a small mattress ( or strong canvas )to be tied under her with ropes at each end ,. elbows and udder side, and then tied to pulley with reef knot. And the cow should be raised for a couple of hours daily to help digestion and breathing and help her stand. But we dont have a strong enough beam on the roof to keep her weight for some time. A very strong beam is needed ,and because of her age we did not want to disturb her., but for a young animal it would help a great deal. She was buried in our field ,carried there tied to bamboo pole by twelve men, from neighbouring tribal village, She was a small local cow and she had 9 calves, 3 girls and 6 boys,3 of whom are our best working oxen. Her last calf, Droupadi is 21 months old. She was not supposed to get bred at such an advanced age but it was a mistake , by a year old bull calf still drinking milk from his mother in the same field. I circumambulated her body. The place where she sat is very empty. Hare Krishna. ys Labangalatika dasi
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing this with us. It's always a heartbreak when a dear old "grandmother" cow finally leaves us -- especially one who is the mother of other important members of the herd. It's wonderful that she could leave her body listening to Srila Prabhupada singning. What a nice transition to the next phase of her service to Krsna. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi Rosalie Malik wrote: >Haribol > > My oldest cow,.
