As far as I know there had been a ban on slaughter of younger animals and this extended it to old animals as well, i.e. complete ban. Guest guest
The ban is a total ban on alaughter of bulls and cow of all agesin Gujurat I tried to get the link in Indian Express of an article but could not get it. It is in Indian express Oct 28th front page. Our friend and lawyer for our Trust RK Joshi prepared the case and won it now in the Supreme Court. I will ask him for material for cow conf. It is very encouraging as it prepares the way easily for other states to follow who want to enact this law., Of course corruption is everywhere and the law is broken . Now in Maharastra a govt board is formed to see that animal rights laws are followed and our lawyer is a member of this board and it means they will get the cooperation of the police to stop illegal slaughter. The 6 to 1 majority judgement in the Supreme Court ruled that cow and its progeny constitute the backbone of Indian agriculture and economy and banning slaughter is in the public interest. It overruled previous verdict allowing slaughter of old bulls saying that that change in socio economic needs justify that bulls and bullocks live their full life. People do realise that there is a serious shortage of cow dung because of greatly reduced number of cattle in India. due to slaughter This is a great blow against the butchers in the battle to protect the cow. If only Iskcon could protect cows and bulls. Of course there are some shining examples. but many temple goshallas are exploiting just like commercial dairies disposing of bulls and bull calves or half starving them ( no naming at present) ys Labangalatika dasi - Hrimati (dd) ACBSP (Mayapur - IN) <Hrimati.ACBSP (AT) pamho (DOT) net> Cow (Protection and related issues) <Cow (AT) pamho (DOT) net> Monday, October 31, 2005 12:46 AM Cow slaughter ban > ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- > > Text PAMHO:10598246 (27 lines) > Bhadra Balaram (das) JPS (Mayapur - IN) > 28-Oct-05 04:24 -0400 > Mahaprabhu Caitanya (das) JPS (Govardhan - IN) [5854] (received: > 29-Oct-05 23:40 -0400) > Free Forum (Announcements) [9463] > ISKCON India (news & discussion) [6390] > Reference: Text PAMHO:10588712 by Mahaprabhu Caitanya (das) JPS (Govardhan - > IN) > Cow slaughter ban > --------------------------- > PAMHO AGTSP! > > > Good News...the Supreme Court of India upholds the ban of the Gujarat > > Government against cow slaughter. > > You can check the link below for this news > > http://in.rediff.com/news/2005/oct/26sc.htm > > thank you for the info. i hurriedly went to the site to read the news but > was disappointed by reading it.
