Good skeptical eye, as always, Hare Krishna devi. Examining the web page

carefully will no doubt reveal flaws. I'm wondering whether anyone is

available to do a physical on-site inspection in India.

Hari bol!

Actually I wrote to them exactly with that question and also about their ox

program. Their reply was that they have another "sister Goshalla" who takes

care of their bulls. They gave the name and place.

I must admit that, at least from the pictures, the milk cows are taken

care of nicely. However, to send off the "excess" cows and bulls may not be

such a good idea.

They have now two bull calves at present, one they will keep as bull and

the other as ox. They are also getting two ox carts, one for work and the

other for preaching in the villages near their ashram.

The web site is not yet finished, he said and the ox part will be added

soon.

If he tells me where the place is I'd like to go there and check it out.

Hoping this will meet you in the very best of health by the grace of

Krishna.

Apart from no clear plan for engaging bulls, they are breeding western

cows . Holsteins, whose only purpose is to produce gallons of milk and

male calves are not much use in Indian conditions and both ,cows and bulls,

of western breeds are very hard to maintain with huge input and very disease

prone. This type of breeding is spoiling the good Indian breeds but it

is very prevalent in Karnataka, the state where they have the goshalla,

because the British Dairy Board was in Bangalore and heavily promoted the

imported western breeds to the detriment of good Indian cattle.

However these people are not ISKCON although vaisnavas so they are

obviously not aware of the standards of cow protection so you could present

the facts nicely to them I'm sure they would become enlightened and review

their policy.. Its ok to criticise thats its a milk scam. so preac h to them

,or as you prefer , exchange your views, but they have some enthusiasm to

start a cow protection programme which I cant see any devotees in .,.that

if you cant guarantee their livelihood for 20 years then dont do it/ You

kill any will to do anything . Who has seen the next 20 years? Just try to

direct these new cow website people and point out the facts that we all

have from experience. Its easy to dismiss them but they have chosen to work

with cows which is not the general trend esp among our devotees so dont

disniss them with such contempt. Why dont you ( meaning conference in

general) try saving some bulls? your servant Labangalatika dasi

As I recollect, it was the Jains. But same point - they are the real

protectors, and just because they have taken a few so far doesn't mean they

will take 20 a year in t he future. And no mention of what happens to the

cows when they stop milking.
