Guest guest
I just this summer discovered a simple critter repellent -- Sand! How do you like to eat sandy lettuce? Not so much? Well, neither do deer, slugs or bugs. This is not a sure-fire method, but it's much better than nothing. I have a sandy stream that flows next to my garden. I scoop out a bucket of sand and water. I water my plants with the water and then pour the remaining sand on the ground. Next morning, when the sand has dried and the dew is still on my plants, I take handfuls of sand and throw them over tomatoes, beans, squash -- and even my little cherry tree. The slugs and Japanese beetles don't like eating that gritty stuff and neither do the deer. It's not fail proof. Whenever it rains, I have to apply more. But it's free, and my stuff is sure growing better than last year. I have some damage, but it's much reduced. Just thought I would pass this along. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi
Guest guest
Thanks! This is good info and certainly worth a try. I've forwarded it to the Vaisnava Ecologist list: Vaisnava-Ecologists/ We were just talking about alternative pest remedies a couple weeks ago. ys - Gopal dasa
