Guest guest
[Devamrita prabhu asked me to send this on his behalf, pending his joining this conference] Dear Devotees in the Cow Protection conference, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada, I have carefully read some messages from this conference which have been kindly forwarded to me by Pancaratna Prabhu. I appreciate wholeheartedly your deep concern for the well being of the Cows and the bulls in the ISKCON Vrindavana goshala, and take every point that was made, in a positive and constructive spirit. Thank you for bringing up these issues. I am your servant and I will try my best to see that these are suitably and satisfactorily addressed soon. Since I have only just moved to Vrindavana ( in Kartika ), I have not found time to sufficiently focus on Cow Protection, in the midst of so many issues, all demanding immediate attention. Please rest assured however, that given some time i will be able to do the needful. Having said the above, I wish to give a quick and tentative outline of some of the proposed activities concerning the ISKCON Vrindavana goshala: 1. Restrict breeding 2. There is a 25 acre land around Vrindavana owned by a Devotee donor. And he has kindly offered that land for the use of the cows. I am working on that.A substantial part of the herd will be shifted out to that land, if all goes well with the discussions. There are of course the major constraints of funds, and even more importantly, of the right kind of manpower. So it may take a little while. Cattle rustling is an issue and unless proper arrangements for security ( including boundary walls ) are made, we can't shift the cows. 3. I am proposing to have one full time Vet.with a Vet. assistant. Presently we only have one part time visiting Vet. 4. I have identified some NGO's that offer nice training programmes for various aspects of cow protection like Ethnovet Medicine, Fodder Cultivation and so on. I need to find the proper people to send for this training. 5. I also propose to start soon making items of utility like medicines, soap, etc.based on cowdung and urine. My Co-President Devakinandana Prabhu also stands fully committed as I am for working towards benefit of the Cows of Vrindavana. He has played a very significant role alongwith one Gentleman Mr. Agarwal and some donors in making many good facilities for the cows eg. cowsheds, boundary walls etc. Actually, there is much more to be done and we will try to do things step by step. So we pray for your prayers, good wishes and blessings that we in ISKCON Vrindavana may be able to serve and protect our cows and bulls in a very nice way. your servant Devamrita das

I think the cows will benefit from this. Manpower is defininetely a key consideration. As we have noted so often in the past, when staff are poorly trained and insufficiently maintained, it results in a high turnover of manpower, and the cows always suffer from that. It seems like a very hopeful sign that Devamrta prabhu is keeping his eye on that factor right from the start. Well trained, and nicely maintained cowherds are essential for happy, well-cared for cows. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi >So it >may take a little while.
