Excess land- can it be true?-2

If a person gives up the main spiritual practices but is prepared to work

the land according to strict vaisnava agricultural principles using oxen

then this person should still be able to hold on to the use of ISKCON land.

If the land is not used fully or if the land is not worked by using oxen, or

not farmed according to organic and animal friendly priciples then the land

use could be revoked. The use of land could be tied legaly.

 

Trouble with this is that the goal of simple living- saving time for

chanting and spiritual practice is

not achieved. It is basically what the grass-roots people are doing, except

with cow protection

added.

Balbhadra found that many could not find time for chanting, so I’m just

trying to understand the

solution by reference to varnasrama. In varnasrama, you have the sudras

assisting the vaisyas. It

seems that even on farms where headway is being made, supplying land to

vaisyas, but what is

being done for the sudras? Of course, no devotee likes to think he is a

sudra, but Srila Prabhupada

said we have to take on these designations to show varnasrama, not that we

have become sudra,

etc. Devotees inclined not so much to study, i.e. sudra, should maybe just

skip out on class but there

should still be chanting! And such devotees could assist the vaisya in

various ways, in return for food,

accomodation etc. They could be allowed to build a house on the vaisyas land

and take whatever produce they

require in return for labour. This kind of works here in Australia, I don’t

know if it happens elsewhere, but we

have here what’s called WWOOFers- Willing Workers On Organic Farms- they

aren’t devotees but stay on our

farms in return for labour (at least 4 hrs/day). So when someone becomes

interested in Krsna Consciousness, but is

not brahminical type, there can be option to be trained up on our farms in

sudra occupations. (I wish that name

sudra didn’t have negative connotations- there have been many highly

elevated so-called sudra devotees) It would

be an ideal way to start in Krsna Consciousness- ideal life in the country
