Guest guest
Dearest devotees, I have so much enjoyed the last round of comments from you all. Such commentary on Indian villages is so enriching, in fact I will use it as teaching material in Geography classes, when looking at Industrial and Ghandian development paradigms. There is so much that one could write in reply, but I have another mission: As well as living a karmi lifestyle, I have my style of a one-pointed meditation on Krsna - Westernised cow protection, as a means to an end - Vedic cow protection. I do not find temple worship too enjoyable (still too much "¿something?" to do that), I chant Hare Krsna, but not too much, what I do do though is meditate on how to impliment cow protection into the Western sphere - my bhakti, my compromise! Our visions seem to be narrowing - similar concepts, different ways of seeing it. The elephant is the same if it is its tail or its trunk. And as Sambha says emails are a difficult medium to fully appreciate the people at the other end. But what are we all on this conference for, if it is not for the implimentation of worldwide cow protection as a means of acting out the word of God, as Bhakti Yoga? Sambha Prabhu articulates the compromise I believe is entirely necessary to start the ball rolling of this goal: > In general I agree with your sentiments in this > regard, a blind uncle is better than none, and to start getting into sustainable, yet commercial > livlihoods is a step in the right direction, > especialy as regards selling paintings, which I feel creates very bad habits in devotees, and is not at > all the kind of livlihood that we should have. My > reservation was against making a livlihood exclusively cow based, with no safety net for the cows. > Give a scenario where the cows are always *happy*, > and I would say go for it. Krsna really does care about the cows being *happy*. For devotees that > should be the criteria. If we dont care for the cows > *happiness* I dont think Krsna will be too worried about ours. > I object to notions that say that Prabhupadas ideas > cannot work, or are > impractical, I beleive that these are fully > possible, its just that many > devotees dont care for them. I too believe Prabhupadian ideals can work, it is just that we (some) are so hypocritical that we do not take them up. Espouse them, yes. Live them, that's another story - especially in the simple living catagory. > What you need to do is actualy find people who mean > what they say, and are prepared to act on it. Not easy to find such people, and I myself have felt > greatly unhappy at not having such association > myself. In fact I must confess to having been a pretender myself for many years, and it is only in > recent years that I have been forced to face up to > it, i'm still not cured though. I find this type of honesty so refreshing. And in terms of its content, what are we here if not people who want to formulate the goal of the mission - bhakti yoga - living the commands of the Guru - worldwide cow protection as part of the simple living dharm, as part of the movement for God realisation. If we're not serious then am I not wasting hours on this conference in banal argument? > I guess also that you may consider that I am one of > those that pushes the Prabhupada line; I beleive it wholeheartedly, but I am not living up to it > either. When it comes to discussions about what > should be done, I always tend to go for the ideal, but personaly I am trying to reach it as much as > anyone else. You are speaking of compromise. I beleive that we need to always be aware that we are compromising, until we are able to reach a state where we have the ideal. So personaly I would favour plans that recognise that they are steps towards a higher goal, rather than ends to themselves. I believe that > we will only begin to realise varnasrama once we > have made many small compromise steps in order to reach the goal. This is my sentiment entirely. What I am trying to nucleate is the action plan to do this, it is just with devotees (as a generalisation) one has to go through philosophical fine tuning before anything else. So, though you and many others may be in favour of a compromise movement, in the months I have been on this conference, whilst I really do feel benefitted by all your association, my one-pointed goal of mapping and costing the system has not gotten too far - we always go back to philosphising on the compromise that I push. Syam, who knows my mind the best and also agrees that a larger enterprise is needed as the backbone that all smaller enterprises can work from, has given me his data on milking and on potato crops. Rohita has given other data on labour ratios to milking cows. We have looked at endowments, maximum, optimum and minimum care of cows, the relationship between public, private and charity, but mostly we have debated the ideal and how my argument falls short of the ideals. The thing is that I am trained to build this model and to nucleate the forces to achieve this goal. If we on this conference could just say "OK, give this guy his cheese - fulfill his desires, let's aid in this business approach in the Western sphere. After all the ultimate goal is to get people on to the land and live simply so as to have time for social, cultural life in the means to realise God, and as many do not just live on krsna communes but interface with "normal society" then this is a stepping stone across the river from meat-based slaughter to milk and crop based commercial cow protection to simple living mostly-subsistence cow-based society." Well, I would be happy, and I honestly think Prabhupada and Krsna would say why not, if you find A too difficult then do B, do C, do something for Krsna. So, for those on this conference who read my writings, I, and you all, have the outlines of the necessary framework, the questions, the approach, to install a Protection farming system in the UK, EU, US, even in Argentina. I just need your help to fill in the details. And believe me there are some serious agricultural experts on this conference. We do have the ability to do this, but do we have the desire and the gall to see it through? Thank you.
