Guest guest
Dear Hare Krsna dasi, Thankyou for your well-researched reply. Points about veganism and health, I am only quoting Priyavarta, as I haven't done much research myself, as it doesn't inconvenience me in the least being a CONDITIONAL vegan. His point is : where do the cows get their minerals/vitamins from? from the soil, taken up by the plants by their roots. Another point he makes is: what sort of milk are we talking about is conducive for health? Milk from cows that spend their lives in cramped conditions, no room to sit down or even turn around, that are fed an artificial diet of dairy supplements and growth hormones, that are as a result suffer from a plethora of illnesses, which are all suppressed by heavy doses of antibiotics, that are in intense anxiety due to this and to having had their calves taken away at birth, and who know that slaughter soon awaits them, this is NOT the same product as the milk of cows that are protected and loved. This so-called milk is further contaminated by vitamin D which is fish oil, is this really offerable? To Govinda, who is the lover of cows, the eternal cowherd boy. I don't think so. I don't think we should support this industry, because not only all of this, but consider the horrific cruelty of the veal industry, where calves live in dark, tiny stalls, unable to sit down or turn around their whole lives, are fed a liquid diet which makes them anaemic, and gives them constant diarrhoea- this is what happens to many of the dairy industry's unwanted calves. Of course, veganism is only a very pathetic second best to the ideal diet and ideal culture based on cow protection, and I agree with you whole-heatedly, 100%, could not agree with you more on the points of the practically unlimited value of the cow and bullock to human society when they are looked after properly. They have practically irreplaceable value, even their dung, even after their death their skin can be made into various things, and your right about the need for bullocks to repace machinery. We need some example of HOW they are so valuable, on our farms, this is the real answer to the problem of cow slaughter within the dairy industry. At least it was Srila Prabhupada's solution. However at present hardly any of our farms are doing that, due to our reluctance to take up Srila Prabhupada's instructions for simple living, or economy based only on the cow and bull, not money. So there has been breeding for profit, which is disastrous in the long-term, for as the calves grow up, the land exceeds its capacity and breeding necessarily grinds to a halt, along with the milk supply. At that point, are we justified in giving money to cow slaughterers? I for one feel responsible for cow deaths until I can live this way of life Srila Prabhupada recommended, so why should I further be implicated by giving money to cow slaughters? There is no greater sin than to take the milk of the cow and then later slit her throat, well that's precisely what this dairy industry's doing. The thing about health could be further researched, but according to the vegans it is far HEALTHIER to live without milk. Of course, as Priyavarta points out to them ,they have only done their research on the milk of the modern dairy industry, which probably is a health hazard as they claim. But real milk, well that's another thing. COMPLETELY different! That's his point. >From your servant, Niscala. ____ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
