More than happy to...

As Srila Prabhupada

pointed

out to Ramesvara prabhu: "If you want to save yourself also, you do this."

77-01-21:

Prabhupada: Yes. Whatever it may be... We should be satisfied locally by our

food, by

our cloth, by our milk. That's all. Let the whole world go to hell. We don't

care. If you

want to save yourself also, you do this. Here is an example. If you want

artificial life,

city life, and hellish life, you do. But we shall live like this. This is

the ideal life.

Prabhupada: We keep the ideal style of life. You learn and do it. I am not

encroaching

upon your independence, but if you want to be happy, you follow. This is our

process.

Apani acari prabhu jiveri siksaya. You be happy, very ideally, and people

will learn.

But this can be possible only on the basis of Krsna consciousness. If you

make minus

Krsna consciousness this thing, it will never be possible. Then it will not

be possible.

All these scheme will be successful if there is Krsna consciousness.

and to Hamsadhuta Prabhu, 77-10-08:

Prabhupada: No luxuries. Live very simple life and you save time for

chanting Hare

Krsna.

Hamsaduta: Yes, Prabhupada.

Prabhupada: That is my desire. Don't waste time for bodily comforts. You

have got

this body. You have to eat something. You have to cover yourself. So produce

your

own food and produce your own cloth. Don't waste time for luxury, and chant

Hare

Krsna. This is success of life. In this way organize as far as possible,

either in Ceylon

or in Czechoslovakia, wherever... Save time. Chant Hare Krsna. Don't be

allured by

the machine civilization.

Hamsaduta: Yes, Prabhupada.

Prabhupada: This is soul-killing civilization, this kind way of life,

especially European

countries. Anywhere you can inhabit it. It is not very difficult. A cottage;

you can

produce your own food anywhere. Am I right?

Hamsaduta: Yes, Prabhupada. We will do it.

Prabhupada: And money, spend for Krsna--for Krsna's palace, for Krsna's

temple, for

Krsna's worship, gorgeous, as gorgeously as... Not for false... This is the

human

civilization. And to organize this, varnasrama will help you to divide the

society--brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya--as there is division in the body. That

will help.

Don't waste human form of body for sense gratification. I wanted to

introduce this.

Now I have given you ideas. You can do it. You are all intelligent. For

Caitanya

Mahaprabhu's para-upakara... So you do good to others. Not exploit others.

Any

human being who has been bestowed by this body has the capacity to chant

Hare

Krsna. Give them chance and make situation favorable. Is that clear?"

He also instructed Tamal Krishna in this way too, Gopinatha Acarya tells me,

but I don't have that quote here. I am presently in the local library and

made the mistake of not bringing any of Srila Prabhupada's conversations

with me.(Got those ones from Gopinatha's letter). When I can get back in

here, (maybe Monday),I will also supply you the quote where Srila Prabhupada

tells us that the brahmanas should learn to plow, so that they can teach

others how to do it. Not just to tell, or even to insist, but to do. That

quote is in his Vrindavan Varnasrama walk- if you want to look it up. But

even in the above quote to Hamsaduta, a GBC, He says "apani acaya prabhu

jiveri siksaya" -to actually live this way, and thus teach by example. And

Hamsaduta was a GBC.

Hope you find this useful.

Note also, his criticism of the machine civilization, or rather

condemnation: "soul-killing". Obviously, he didn't desire Hamsaduta, or

Ramesvara, or ANYONE to grow their own food using TRACTORS. Why would he ask

them to waste their time? (1000's karmis doing it- why would he ask

RAMESVARA of all people???) His reference to growing their own food and

living ideally, could ONLY have been by bullock power, as in the same

conversation, he condemns machines. (as he did many times before)...Be

interested in feedback, though. Comments?

PAMHO. AGTSP.

I just wanted to add in connection with Hare Krsna dasi's comments

regarding GBCs behind a team of oxen that I have personally worked side by

side with H. H. Bhakti Tirtha Swami in the garden here at Gita Nagari. Based

upon the time and energy he invests, one might conclude that cow protection,

varnasram/community development, self sufficiency and vaisnava relationships

are his top priorities. H. H. Bhakti Tirtha Swami is constantly on top of all

the activities of Gita Nagari and although he has many responsibilities all

over the world, he is here very regularly. He takes all his responsibilities

very seriously and doesn't require encouragement in that regard. Altogether,

he is an extraordinary and exceptional vaisnava possessed of profound love

and devotion for Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada's love shines

transparently through him. I am proud and honored to have such a godbrother

and GBC. Please Prabhus, for our own sake, let's be careful not to commit

offense.

Dear Taraka Prabhu,

PAMHO. AGTSP.

Good to hear you active on the conference.

This is great to hear.

Could you ask Bhakti-tirtha Swami to do his GBC cow report or appoint a

Monitor in his area there to do the checking. We gave him a hard copy and

GBC report form, but I'm not sure he'll remember. We were discussing South

Africa cow situation at the time.

Thank you

Your servant,

Chayadevi
