Guest guest
One HK devotee and another aspiring devotee are telling me that bulls need nose rings in addition to castration. Is it necessary or can we get away with a rope through the nose (like they do in India) or around the nose? If some ome like Balabhdraji can answer this we will be grateful, since we plan to train two oxen here. Thank you! Guest guest
If you would like more detailed instructions on how to train an ox by voice commands ( the method Drew Conway uses that requires developing a relationship of trust) there are such instructions on www.iscowp/resources/resources.html. The first by Balabhadra are for young animals and the second for older animals. If not using voice commands the nose rope is preferable to the ring. Surprisingly in several parts of India that we traveled through there were no nose ropes. The oxen were controlled by voice. - Mark Middle Mountain <gourdmad (AT) ovnet (DOT) com> S S <sankar1 >; Cow (Protection and related issues) <Cow (AT) pamho (DOT) net> Monday, March 25, 2002 11:07 AM Re: Bulls > > > > > One HK devotee and another aspiring devotee are > > telling me that bulls need nose rings in addition to > > castration. Drew Conroy from "OXEN A Teamsters Guide" "If you can direct your team without a yoke, halters, lead ropes, or other physical restraint you have achieved a high level of training and trust. Animals that follow willingly or obey directions without being physically forced to do so have gained the trust and respect of the teamster." To earn trust takes more patience and time. To control by fear can be done quicker and by a less experienced person. What applies to oxen also applies to people.
Guest guest
Dear Prabhu's, the comments in the reference by ISCOWP regard nose rings are the type of anti confrontational remarks that are helpfull to information. If comments regarding the use of nose rings are barbed and insulting then obviously there will be an opening up of the topic again. As we are in a desperate position in that there are hardly anyone working oxen in any capacity in our society we should use words that encourage and support. As the cow workers are so numerically low we should do everything we can to give an air of we are in this together rather than slugging from behind a keyboard. ys syam
