New farm/Goshalla in Tirunelveli

This is Sri Vallabha das, congregation leader from Dubai (Damodar DEsh).

My parents, Maha Mani Krsna das & Paripoorna Radha Devi das who are in

their 60s throught their trust Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum Educational &

Charitable Trust have started a new project - goshalla/farm.

 

The trust owns 95 acres of land in T'veli just 20kms from the town,

totally virgin land. The land was procured in Mar 04 and from May they

settled in the farm and now the whole place is green.

 

Initially 10 calves were taken from a Kartika temple in Tiruchendur and

they added a few bulls for ploughing as well as transportation.

 

Donations are mainly from Dubai.

 

The plot has been divided into 18 blocks roughly of 5 acres each to denote

the 18 chapters of the Gita.

 

Tommorrow, 40 odd cows are marching in from another goshalla, who take in

cows that are saved from slaughter. Eventually the intention is to buy

more of desi cows (Indian cows).

 

The purpose is not to run a diary farm, but to protect the cows as well as

use the cow dung/urine to make pancha gavya as a pesticide; cow dung to be

processed thro gobar gas plant to finally be converted into vermicompost

as manure for the farm and also grow organic vegetables/dals etc.

 

Around 40 acres have already been planted with close to 30000 trees -

fruit/timber/cashew/casurina etc.

 

The purpose is also to make some laxmi to make the unit sort of subsidized

for cow protection.

 

Currently there are no voluntary workers, but all are contract workers. As

the land was rough, the intial ploughing was with tractor and from thereon

bulls are going to be used.

 

Many more devotees are also keen to add on to more lands in the

neighbourhood so that they will support the project as well as grow the

activities of the trust.

 

Eventually the goal of my father is 1008 (pasus)cows & 1008 (sisus)

children to be taken care of by the trust.

 

Currently he runs a program in Chennai wherein around 200 children/75

familes are being nurtured in Krishna Consiousness, based on their

spiritual inclination, they are also provided material support for

education/clothing/ration. This new project will be an extention to the

existing activities which are going on even though he is physically in

T'veli. The kids who attend his programs have a large repertory of

shlokas, some as high as 400 from SB & Bg. All this is just the outcome of

one old couple's dedication.

 

Those who come to South India are invited to come to witess as well as

support with knowledge the activities in both Chennai & T'veli.

 

T'veli is around 200 kms from Madurai and around 250 kms from Trivandrum

and near the Kanyakumari district which is the southern most tip of India.

This place has the sacred river Thampraparni flowing through and also has

many many Sri Vaisnava temples, many belonging to the 108 divya desas.
