Guest guest
>The beer in a dish is a known organic way of eradicating slugs but it is direct action. Action to which a devotee gardener cannot do. In-direct slug protection like keeping roaming ducks or chickens is OK, but not actually drowning them or picking them off the leaves and handing them to the ducks. Srila Prabhupada said we can keep cats to deal with mice and rats. Mmmm, I seem to have a problem here in accepting there is any real difference between your 'direct' action being unacceptable and 'indirect' action being acceptable. What is the difference between killing aggressors directly or hiring (maintaining) animals (or humans) to do it for you. Don't we understand that among the 5 persons who must take responsibility, the person(s) paying for it and those enjoying the results are held just as responsible as the actual killer? Your "In-direct slug protection", sounds like easy-speak. Is your theory based on any direct shastric evidence or quote from Srila Prabhupada? If it's OK to kill slugs attacking Krishna's crops, I don't think we should pretend that we are too pure to do it directly, while at the same time buying and maintaining ducks to do the dirty work for us. It reeks of a sort of 'holier-than-thou' hypocrisy to my mind. No offense intended, just clarity of thought sought. Your "In-direct slug protection", sounds like easy-speak. I understand your concern, but we need to use discretion here: the farmer is sustaining on the crops and the ducks are sustaining on slugs. The ducks are responsible for the killing due to their sustenance, not the farmer. The farmer is just introducing them on his farm and the ducks are sustaining themselfs. In a natural environment there's a balance... Unfortunately this balance has been far broken and needs to be restored. Introducing different animals & crops on the farm is a step towards this. << If it's OK to kill slugs attacking Krishna's crops, I don't think we should pretend that we are too pure to do it directly, while at the same time buying and maintaining ducks to do the dirty work for us. This is not true ! We have no reason of sustenance to kill slugs. Our aim is to protect our crops, by seperating the 'aggressors' from them. This can be done manually without killing them (but how effective can this be done ?) or by introducing animals that feed on them (why you would need to buy or maintain them ? They will maintian themselfs if YOU know what you're upto and you can get one or two for free). It's not dirty work, it's their sustenance !
