Always stagger the breeding as much as possible -- to insure the maximum ratio of high-quality first-year milk. In other words, don't breed 2 cows the first year, and then wait to years and breed 2 more. Better one per year. A lot will depend on the expertise of your cowherds. An expert cowherd can make the lactation last longer. An amateur is likely to make mistakes which will cause mastitis after a year or so -- thus cutting short the length of your lactation. Much depends on excellent training. In fact, Naveen Krsna's favorite varnasrama saying from Srila Prabhupada is, "Lack of success is due to lack of training."
