Guest guest
Dear Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. The purpose of my writing is to inform you of discussions that have occurred recently in the "Topical Discussions" conference. The texts were sent by a Dhyanakunda d.d. (KKD) onto the conference. The email following this will contain the specific references and you can judge for yourself first hand if I am exaggerating. DHYANAKUNDA D.D.: In her statements Dh.dd attempts to point out discrepancies in Srila Prabhupada books and at one point states that 'Another things that bothers me is that Srila Prabhupada is always so sure of himself. He is fully confident in his own judgment' or 'Very strong, super simple black-and- white general statements. Where ordinary people would soften their statements by saying, "as far as I know,I am convinced that,to some degree,in this respect, from my experience," "most probably,at present it looks like..." etc., Srila Prabhupada passes absolute judgements, and he is not even consistent in them.' Plus "I am ready to believe the source of his certainty is direct link with Krsna's absolute knowledge, *if* it can be proven he was absolutely right each time." The above comments were made in a public COM forum and were all contained in one submission. There are other writings from her in the same conference along the same line. To repeat, the questionable statements will follow this email. MAHANANDA DASA: Mahananda Prabhu, participating in the same conference and while defending Srila Prabhupada's position of acarya, is thrown off the conference by Madhusudani Radha, the conference's moderator for making what she perceives as threats towards Dh.dd. In reading his submission, I cannot see any threat but rather a whole hearted defense of Srila Prabhupada. Please form your own opinion by reading the following email transmission. MADHUSUDANI RADHA (JPS): In my opinion, her reasoning to exclude Mahananda Prabhu from the conference is very shallow and seems one-sided. On another COM conference (VAST), which was also very critical of Srila Prabhupada, it was described that some of Prabhupada's opinions (in relation to women) could be a result of conditioning he received at Scottish Churches College, etc. Many controversial points were made. The participants of the VAST conference are some of the well-educated individuals in the movement. A selection of their texts can be forwarded to you if you haven't already seen them. At this time, Madhusudani Radha suggested the footnoting of the books. She has also publicly proposed homosexual unions within the movement and to my experience is constantly trying to water down both the philosophy and lifestyle of Krsna consciousness. But now, I think there may be something more to this attack by Mad. Radha and Dhy. d.d. and it is so serious that it will make the discussion about the position of guru and the poisoning of Srila Prabhupada look like child's play. Previously, I have had a strong debate on the varnasrama conference with Mad. Radha and Hare Krsna dasi. It was in regards to the footnoting of Srila Prabhupada's books. Mad. Radha and H.K.d.d., on the varnasrama conference, repeated the idea of footnoting Srila Prabhupada's books. I took them to task on the issue and a heated debate resulted. They want to footnote Prabhupada's books in respect to his many statements in regards to women and their role in a varnasrama society. Basically, Mad. Radha backed out with very little resistance and H.K.d.d. continued her support saying that Jayadvaita Swami is qualified to footnote Prabhupada's books. The difficulty these two matajis experienced in our debate and others is that Srila Prabhupada's books were continually used as an authority to defeat their points. In the end, Mad. Radha stopped fighting for her points and they finished the debate by calling names. But more recently, she expressed them once again on the Topical Discussion conference, i.e. that it is acceptable to have the books footnoted and again they volunteer Jayadvaita Swami. (By the way, I have written to J. Sw. and he wants nothing to do with the exercise and both these matajis are aware of this). When pushed to discuss the issue, she demanded that the discussion be done privately. Why should changing Prabhupada's books be discussed privately? A more recent example of weakness in her character, is that she has now taken the "Topical Discussions" conference private. Why are discussions that are topical being brought into a private forum. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines topical as: "referring to the topics of the day or place: of local or temporary interest." And when Mahananda dasa stands up for Srila Prabhupada's absolute position in the movement, he is censored and deported from the conference. It is understandable that some conferences require privacy such as the GBC conference(s) or even the Astrology conference since participation depends on particular levels of education and ability. But Topical Discussions? The timing of it is also peculiar since it was taken off the air immediately after the controversial comments were made. With these experiences in mind, it is very plausible that those individuals who are focused on altering the Vedic conclusion on women's role in society, i.e. the conclusion as presented by Srila Prabhupada, are now making a direct attack on Srila Prabhupada himself in a misguided attempt to undermine faith in him as the founder/acarya of the movement and as an absolute authority. Logically, if they are bent on establishing a liberal and modern concept of femininity in ISKCON, then this must be done. Otherwise, they will be constantly defeated by devotees of Srila Prabhupada quoting from sastra which to date has been their experience. They must destroy both, i.e. the authority of guru and sastra. This in effect will destroy the movement. Srila Prabhupada's words are all that we have to go on. I agree that these are extreme allegations. However, from my vantage point, I have a difficult time coming to another conclusion. Please review the following quotes with the history described above in mind. My prayer is that you can help keep Srila Prabhupada at the center of the movement and curtail the aparadhas being committed by the above-mentioned individuals for their own spiritual well- being and the well-being of the movement itself.
