Guest guest
Hare Krsna Syam Prabhu, We would be well set if we could just harness you to a computor for a weekend and milk your brain for the wealth of practical knowlege you have in there! I think many of our farms simply feel going beyond the basic harnessing of the bullocks and utilizing them for general draw bar work is too hard. But taking things one step further and gearing for their work would be really encouraging. A easy to read booklet with drawings written by you would be very valuable to our society. I would like to order the first one!. Thanks, Your servant, Ananta Krsna Dasi. - Syamasundara (das) (Bhaktivedanta Manor - UK) <Syamasundara (AT) pamho (DOT) net> Cow (Protection and related issues) <Cow (AT) pamho (DOT) net> Friday, 30 March 2001 08:43 Ox power unit Dear Prabhu's we have a very versatile ox power unit here at Bhaktivedanta manor. The machine in effect replaces the engine of a tractor. The gearing of the oxen ends up in a PTO point ( the same point a tractor has which equipment is connected to) One can power any machine that a tractor can power in a standing position. Our power unit grinds flour and rolls oats and barley. It could also cut wood if we had a saw. We don't have a saw because we dont burn any logs except for perhaps once or twice a year. Gas central heating boilers. The gear system is basically a 30 tonne truck axle fixed into the ground. >From that the trucks drive shafts are connected. To that the gear box is connected or you could even put two gear boxes to get a bigger variety of speeds. From the gear box you go into a universal power point, like a tractors >From the universal power point you go straight into the farm equipment using the tractor pto bars. If you can buy a tractor powered flour mill you are ready to go. If not then you will need to modify a bought flour mill. This is a straight forward task for an engineer. The manor uses 4 oxen on the mill. The oxen are in series i.e all following one another each pulling their own bar via a cable and pulleys. The fine details of getting all 4 oxen to pull equal whilst pulling there own bar can be acuretly seen on the Gita nagari saw gear unit. I was able to stream line our unit after my visit there a couple of years ago. The driver of the oxen stands in the middle and drives and encourages the oxen from there. All our oxen have rings but in the ox power unit there is no need for any nasal harnessing. The oxen are pulled along from their harness connected to the bar in front. The ox power gear sytem is a must for every farm and opens up many exciting posibilities in ox powered livelihoods. I keep meaning to getting around to making a booklet but I do not get around it. The only snag if I may say with the Gita nagari gear system is that it is quite complex and would require professional engineering help. The use of truck axles and gear boxes could be attempted by somebody without extensive engineering skills. ys syam
