Dear Mother Hrimati,

PAMHO AGTSP Hari Bol!

When I was at Gita Nagari we always added 1 week to the due date. It seemes

that the Brown Swiss tended to carry an extra week. Keep a close watch on

her udder. They tend to swell 3 times the last few days leading up to

calving. Also if she is free to roam she will be looking for a comfortable

spot to calve in just prior to calving. How many times a day are you

checking her? She might need to have some help with the calf. Is she a 1st

calf heifer. What breed is she? Was she breed to the same breed? If she

was breed to a larger breed and is a 1st calf heifer she may need help

during labor to drop her calf. Keep in touch. Hope all is well.

yr servant,

Balabhadra das

Hare Krishna!

Dear Prabhu,

She is today carrying 290 days. This is her second calf. I am with her all

day and at night I can hear her, as her barn is attached right next to our

hut.

Vishnupriya is a Holstein cow and breed two times, ones artificial (Jersey)

and a second time with an Indian bull (large breed) in the afternoon. We had

problems getting her pregnant before. She had been breeding several months

with a bull, who had brucelitis (spelling). After the doctor realized this,

he cleaned her out and gave her external and internal treatment, after that

she finally conceived. Naturally I am concerned about her being so late. She

has been showing signs of discharge, swelling of her odder etc. for some

time now. My question is what is the acceptable time limit? In humans it is

not healthy for the baby to be too much over due. What about cows?
