Dear Prabhu's

Could those who have used a sulky plough please tell me if a team of oxen

can pull it all day?

I have recently acquired a catalogue from pioneer equipment and they sell

sulky ploughs. Before I go further in purchasing one I would like to know

how friendly they are to a team of oxen or are they multi team ploughs?

Dear Syamasundara Prabhu,

PAMHO. AGTSP.

Is it a single bottom plow or a double bottom plow? What size plow is it-12

inch, 14 inch? There will be different vairiable that you woild have to

consider such as type of soil and air temperature. If it is cool weather, it

is always easier for them to work and we use to plow an 8 hour dayat Gita

nagari. We were using a double bottom plow with 14 inch plow shears and were

plowing 6 to 8 inches in depth with that set up we were running 3 teams of

oxen end to end and we would work for 8 hours in cool or cold weather such

as early spring or fall. Even with the single bottom plow you may want to

consider two teams end to end. What type of soil do you have? Do you have a

clay loam soil which would harder to plow then a soil which tends to be

lighter in nature. Hope this is helpful. When plowing you need to watch

their breathing and give adequate rest periods. Don't let them rest too

long, you don't want them to cool off too much but at the same time you need

to pace them so they can get the work done without "pulling their tongues."
