A number of devotees have mentioned the need to find employment for the oxen

as a solution or part of the solution. This point is generaly understood by

all cowherders. To get an ox team to work seriously the driver must be

making his livelihood from their work otherwise how else can he/she work

them.

This makes a lot of sense. But you go on to say...

In this day and age the vast majority of devotees require money to

live and thus they must do something to earn their money.

The oxen should be an essentail part of the money making scheme.

This is faulty for 2 reasons. First, it was not Srila Prabhupada's program

at all for cow

protection. He said grow everything you need, and if there is excess, trade.

He

condemned cash-cropping. He recommended not being dependent on money.

Livelihoods

should be dependant on the oxen. The solution (I feel) is to manifest

buiseness schemes where organic, animal friendly, animal draft food products

are being sold.

Therefore I mention the 2nd reason. We are supposed to take up this simple

lifestyle to

reduce the so-called necessities and save time to chant. To grow for excess,

means

nothing short of working all day with the bullocks to produce what is done

by a tractor

in a fraction of the time. Practically that means it is not economical, nor

does it save

time It would be necessary to charge 10 times the price, to make it

worthwhile. I

know there is few devotees who could live without money, entirely, me

included. So

why not have a guest house on each farm, and combine with city preaching?

Live

alternatively, on what the cow and bull produce, this is real preaching, and

people will

come to see and be part of such a genuine alternative lifestyle. That was

SP's advice,

and his prediction.

The world is waiting for such products in the marketplace.

One thing that this would work EASILY without marketing headaches (and it is

a

headache when you're out in the middle of nowhere) is when people come to

YOU to

see your alternative lifestyle, they will probably want to take back a

sample of

ox-grown produce, so that's when your excess can go.
