Microfarming is the answer to factory farming. While it is true that

industrialization of farming is a hit to the small farmers, with advances in

biotechnology we will see a resurgence of microfarming. Microfarming is a home

business where the farmers use resources very efficiently and cut all overhead

produce niche agri-products with A network of microfarmers should be able to

achieve self-sufficiency in food production and it is lot cheaper because there

is no inventory or transportation. Currently the focus is on the global market

for herbal products, food processing and flowers. While the concept is out

there and there are people who make upto $30000/- a month, there is no strong

business model that handles fluctuation in farming results - it is feast or

famine.

"ISCOWP (Balabhadra Dasa & Chaya Dasi - USA)" wrote:"The worldwide spread of

factory farming is increasing poverty and threatening

health, according to a report yesterday by Compassion in World Farming.

The report ["Detrimental Impacts of Industrial Animal Agriculture"] collated

for the first time data on livestock production in developing countries and

economic analysis from World Bank and UN reports. The animal welfare

organisation also examined figures on disease transmitted through food

production around the world.

It concluded that the "live stock revolution" was putting small farmers out of

business, thereby compromising developing countries' ability to feed

themselves, and leading to a global increase in antibiotic-resistant

infections. "
