Guest guest
Regarding the points of view expressed in regards to killing boars: Just as Janesh produced a quote which seemed to support it, Gopinatha Acarya produced many which indicate it is forbidden. He also explains why Srila Prabhupada sometimes spoke of violence as part of VAD, when it is to be applied, and how, and by whom. As Bg states, how and when violence is to be applied rests with those in knowledge. It is a science and has to be studied with care, as with any science, misuse is very dangerous. Ksatriyas did get karma for killing animals, even in sacrifice and under the direction of brahmanas (as the story of Mucukunda reveals), so what to speak of those who take killing into their own hands? A vaisnava has, by nature, a compassionate heart and is adverse to killing even an ant, and will place food out even for snakes, mice and cockroaches. It is said to cause even the slightest anxiety within the mind of any living entity, is to cause oneself to turn far away from Krsna “due to a separatist mentality” Gopinatha Acarya has also given practical alternatives like growing sweet potatoes (at least this devotee has sought advice BEFORE the massacre!) Actually, the word ksatriya means one who protects from harm. Unless you are under ferocious attack, with life endangered, you have no excuse to harm them. Rather, protect them from harm and feed them and try to see them as you would your own children as advised in SB: “...HOW LITTLE DIFFERENCE THERE IS...” Actually the quote Janesh supplied is irrelevant anyway, as Srila Prabhupada is describing what to advise for meat-eaters- that rather than organize slaughter house, they must kill their own meat. It has nothing to do with protecting crops, as Srila Prabhupada advised that householders should grow sufficient for these creatures to eat and go away. That is the specific instruction for your case. It is not that you are desiring meat (I hope!), but it is for protecting crops, so take the instruction that is relevant for you.
