Following the principles, with the education Prabhupada gave us, then for the environment to hunt deer may be necessary if their population pressure is affecting adversely the balance of the ecosystem. This is where the protectors of the natural balance, the ksyatrias, were given dispensation to hunt and to eat that which was hunted. So devotees should not be against hunting, killing, or eating meat; it has its place. But the place is only when the ecosystem is threatened, or human settlements are threatened, by excess population of a species or aggressive behaviour. This is only to do with wildlife and not domesticated animals, which are lifetime-protected. Presently in most developed countries there is little reason to hunt for the above criteria except in some national parks, as the ecoststem in farmlands is so degraded by our own management, not due to wildlife. But each case needs to be viewed on its merits. My opinion from my understandings and readings of the Vedas, Mark Great stuff seeking new owners in Auctions! http://auctions.
