Guest guest
Dear Balbhadra and Chayadevi Prabhus, Pamho, AGTSP, It seems that despite giving lip service to the cause of cow protection in forming a GBC committee for cow protection (of yourselves) and despite your laudable effort of establishing Minimum Guidelines for Cow protection, still the expected has come to pass. Close to zero change. Next will come an infinity of excuses- what you’re up against, and how you’ll deal with it and all with zero support from above?!?!! You have my unlimited respect and support (be it only verbal) from below on this here, the bottom rung of the ISKCON ladder. Anyway, the cows are mooing their support, and when they become Krsna’s mothers in the spiritual world, they’ll remember and bless unlimitedly servants like you, who tried to stop them being abused in this world. What is the next step for us bottom rungers? (if anything) Dear devotees on the cow com, I have a few suggestions, open for discussion with you. 1. Provided your farm manager is not violent (like the one here), you could become a monitor on the farm in your vicinity and report any abuses and neglect of cows and try to rectify. It also means regularly counting them, which means giving them names, and getting to know them. It’s the highest bliss, compared to coming from Brahman realization to Bhagavan: 1. Brahman realization- cows are shapeless dots on a field 2. Paramatma realization- they have a form! 3. Bhagavan realization- they have a personality, are loveable and reciprocate in loving exchanges! 2. You could approach your GBC after observing or hearing about cow abuse or neglect, and really put on pressure. If you can get a few friends to back you up so much the better. My point is if the leaders are going to turn a blind eye to all this nonsense, why should we blindly follow? The blind leading the blind and we all go into the ditch. (Speaking of ditches, we have deep ones all over our farm, dug quite a few months ago and though one or two cows have died by breaking bones falling into them, still no one says a word . If he does, the backlash intended to quieten him varies cosiderably from threats and violence, to political promotion!! All quite effective actually!) So help poor cow out of ditch by your own hand! Or if you’re forbidden to by people who are determined to keep cow protection at level of lip service, or good PR, or sentimental, or hypocritical, then make it known to your GBC. Why should we just be angry at the cow abuse? We have every right to do something about it. In fact, not doing anything about unrighteous acts, itself brings on sinful reaction, like those who witnessed Draupadi’s disrobing and did not try to stop it and so became implicated and condemned. Or we could pretend or imagine its not happening on our farm. Maybe it isn’t. But we will never know if we keep the cows at “safe””ignorance is bliss” distance- as shapeless dots on a field. That could be compared to those in the kuru assembly, during the disrobing, who just closed their eyes. Solution is to keep eyes open and observe. Hopefully all is OK. or you may be horrified with what you see, but if you are able to do something about it, it is well worth the trouble. Anyway, we probably all agree on that, but point of discussion is- is this the best way to go about it (minimizing cow abuse) or is there a better way?
