Guest guest
Swamiji asks "Ganga has been charged with the responsibility to cleanse the world from selfishness. When Ganga complained that She would become polluted from cleansing the world, Brahma proclaimed that the sadhus will perform sadhana in order to clean Her. What actions can we take to help clean Ganga?" Until we become a mahatmas, we all have in common selfishness and self centredness. Spiritual selfishness is a more intelligent form of the self seeking impulse, but it is selfishness nevertheless. Sadhana done for boons, whether material or spiritual, does not help cleanse us or the world as much as dharmic action/spiritual practice done with an attitude of true surrender and unconditional love. It is easy to do the right thing when all is going well, but much more difficult under severe adversity. But we have to do our practice anyway ("abya karo"), simply because there is no other way of behaving that makes any sense once we start to know our own true nature.
