Guest guest
FASTING There's hidden sweetness in the stomach's emptiness. We are lutes, no more, no less. If the soundbox Is stuffed full of anything, no music. If the brain and the belly are burning clean With fasting, every moment a new song comes out of the fire. The fog clears, and new energy makes you Run up the steps in front of you. Be emptier and cry like reed instruments cry. Emptier, write secrets with the reed pen. When you're full of food and drink, Satan sits Where your spirit should, an ugly metal statue In place of the Kaaba. When you fast, Good habits gather like friends who want to help. Fasting is Solomon's ring. Don't give it To some illusion and lose your power, But even if you have, if you've lost all will and control, They come back when you fast, like soldiers appearing Out of the ground, pennants flying above them. A table descends to your tents, Jesus' table. Expect to see it, when you fast, this table Spread with other food, better than the broth of cabbages. Jelaluddin Rumi -------------------------------- These words by Rumi really resonate with me. I don't "FAST" but when I cleanse*, I am eating only at specified times and only certain things are taken in over the course of the 30 day practice. In doing so I am overcoming all kinds of subconscious inertias and cravings. I am a much, much better person when doing this practice and IT IS a sadhana as I am confronted constantly, but the fruits of this labor are ever present. I think I'll start another cleanse in about three days. Guest guest
Dear Dharam I could not agree with you more about the power of fasting. There are some other aspects of fasting too. When you fast some food is spared for the other half of the hungry world. It also gives some rest to your mechanism, which is so balanced and delicate and more so working non stop, for repairs and maintenance. Stay in touch for yoga. Guest guest
Sat Nam, Everyone, Dharam, I found your post on fasting/cleansing particularly relevant as I am going to begin a 21-day melon cleanse on June 14. I am joining a group of students at the kundalini studio I attend and we're all going to begin and continue together for mutual support. Several students at the studio did this cleanse at about this time last year under the supervision of Dr. Siri Atma Singh Khalsa from New Mexico. He will make himself available to us again this year for general guidance and to answer any specific questions and concerns as they arise. I have friends in other areas who will also be joining us for this cleanse, so if any of you on the list are interested in the group experience, you are very welcome to join us. If you go to www.shaktakaur.com and click on "yogic lifestyle" you will be able to view the details of the fast. We are preparing now by eating very lightly -- fresh salads, steamed vegetables -- and I think that is a good thing to do for anyone interested in starting with us next week. We are all also stocking up on emergen-C LITE, which is sugar-free, to make sure our potassium, magnesium and sodium levels are not depleted during the cleanse. I am really looking forward to this! I have had that experience of being light and energized as a result of curbing food consumption, and my body is really wanting that just now!
