Guest guest
Understanding the Story of Ganga Krishna stands for the divine I in us or Atman. Through the song of the Guru (Shiva) the union of Passion (Radha) and Krishna takes place and through the union Ganga is born through the sublimation of passion. Ganga now in the form of tejas is so beautiful that Krishna is attracted to her but Radha or human passion when she is deluded is jealous - so the stories of her jealousy i.e. whenever she sees Krishna in the arms of good tendencies she is jealous and she pulls us away from them. So now we have a major problem, Ganga born from the sublimation of the union between Krishna and Radha is enticing Krishna and to leave Ganga with Radha is to destroy or give into passion. The only way out is to focus this energy in pleasing Narayana or our Ishta thereby refocusing this tension in us gained through sadhana or Gurus grace. But still this does not help us completely as instead of looking at our Istha with a sattvic mind we start to relate to him with a tamasic devotions and when we do this then our morals (Saraswati) or our rajasic devotions is in conflict with our tamasic devotions and the only way out of this is when we refocus our rajasic tendencies into devotions like chanting that is Saraswati marrying Brahma and our tamasic tendencies through understanding or wisdom given by the Guru that is Ganga marrying Siva. It is the she situation in the Vama Avatar story when man gives up everything he has and in the end surrenders himself which is shown by King Bali putting foot of Vama Avatar on his head then Ganga is released or kunadlini is awakened in us and these awakened energies need the help of Shiva (Guru) to attain its full potential. Once we attain our full potential then we flow as Ganga or we become Ganga to save others. On Ganga being 'Ida' what it means is that when she is flowing through man she is the awakened 'I' which is 'AIM' which is felt as 'GAN' by us - the Intelligence through which we differentiate ourselves from the Other or waken to our uniqueness - which is the beginning of growth and understanding. Namaste, Thank you for the interesting write up on the story of Ganga. The lines above especially reminded of a verse from the Chandi -- Chapter 11 where it says "Those who take refuge in you ultimately become a refuge to others".
