One time Swamiji was explaining "Vishwas" in the temple. Since we were

little, we pray to God asking for Vishwas - it means faith in Hindi.

Swamiji said that Vishwas is made of "vish" -- the entire universe and

"waaas" -- my

breadth. So Vishwas means our whole being is invested in the Universe --

The universe is my being.

I learnt then - when we pray to God for giving vishwas, we are asking to

become one with the entire universe...

Dear Ramya and all ~ reading this struck a deep chord in my soul. And you

have explained it so beautifully. I am saving this one for my new fridge. : )

One question, is the word, "Vishwas," related in any way to Vishnu? Also,

there is a bhajan I adore. It is on a tape of bhajans given to me by my sister

.... a copy of a copy. I don't know where it came from or how to get another

one, and I fear that, after nine years, the tape is beginning to wear. All

the songs are to Shiva. There is one I especially love. I will try not to

unduly misrepresent the lyric, and hope everyone can read between my

transliteration. I am curious to know if this song is in any way related to the "Vishwas"

you speak of. (This is a question for anyone who may know the answer.)

Hare Hare Hare Mahadeva Shambo

Kashi Vishva Nacta Gungai

Kashi Vishva Nacta Gungai

Kashi Amma Nacta Gungai

Hare Hare Hare Mahadeva Shambo

Kashi Vishva Nacta Gungai

There is a bit more, but this is basically it, just repeated over and over.

Parvati? (I am thinking of writing to Shubalananda and giving him lyric

samples of all these songs and see if he can tell me what they are and maybe where

they came from. I was just reading his most recent (2004) "Time and Space"

ezine (which is about kirtan and has lots of other wonderful info), and I have

just gotten to the part where Parvati has written about her perspective on

kirtan. So I am excited to read it. Also Subal wrote about singing kirtan,

bhajans, music is healing, which I have known all my life. Perhaps if I start

singing the names of God/dess my voice will come back to me. A girl can always

hope (and pray). Blessings all ~ Linda

Dear Ramya,

I am new to the group and saw your message about this song. By this time maybe someone has answered you. But just in case ....

Hara Hare Hare Mahadeva Shambo

The second line is

Kashi Vishva Natha Gange. (sounds like "nata gungay")

Vishva Natha means Lord of the Universe.

Krishna Das has recorded this on one of his CD's

Peace,

Patricia
