SRIMATHE RAMANUJAYA NAMAHA

APPAN THIRUVADIGALE SARANAM.

 

 

Dear Bahavathas, Accept my pranam. Nammazhvar’s Thirunakshthram falls on 9th June. The article below is presented to fit this occasion in 3 parts.

The essence and the ultimate goal of Indian Philosophy is that the Jeevathmas turmoiling in samsara should get released (Moksha) and be united with Emperuman (BRAHMAM) in Nithya vibhuthi. WHY?

Because, Jeevathmas are the property of Emperuman Sriman Narayanan and they should also enjoy HIM there just like NITHYASURIS.

 

What should be done for this?

 

There are two ways.

 

1.VEDIC APPROACH. Those who are eligible should observe Karma,Gna,Bhakti Yogas with upasana on HIM.

 

2. PRAPATHI. If Jeevathma realises that he is the servant of Sriman Narayana and should not avoid the efforts by Emperuman to take him to Nithya Vibhuthi that ONLY IS ENOUGH. The Emperuman will care rest.

IS IT THAT SIMPLE?

 

NO and YES

NO. Almost all of us desire to enjoy life in some way or other in samsara.

2. Our efforts and prayers to Emperuman and other demigods are for the fulfillment of these wishes.

3. So long we keep a distance from HIM BY OUR EFFORTS, the path is a long and difficult one and we may not know when we reach the goal. .

 

YES.

On the other hand a realization should spark in our mind that Emperuman is everything.

‘ ADENKEZHIL SAMPATHU ADANKAKANDU EESAN

ADANKEZHIL AHHTHU ENRU ADANKUKA ULLE.(Thiruvaimozhi.1.2.7) (Everything is beautiful and that belongs to Emperuman. Realize this and be submissive (or surrender) to Him.

He is every thing.

He ONLY can grant Moksha.

He does everything for our welfare only.

Accept this fact and act accordingly

We should not avoid his efforts towards Moksha.

This is AZHVAR’S Approach.

This is universal and applicable to one and all.

 

HOW CAN WE KNOW THIS? Let us have glimpses of Thiruvaimozhi

 

The very first Pasurm.”MAYARVARA MATHINALAM ARULINAN EVAN AVAN.. (Who gave a wealth of wisdom. It is HE)

“PATHHUDAYAVARKKELIYAVAN” (He is easily accessible to those who are attached to him)

‘MARUVITHOZHUM MANEME THANTHAI’ (You gave me the mind to worship you)

‘ENNAI THEEMANM KEDUTHAI’ (You removed the evil mind of mine)

‘KAATHAL KADALPURIYA VILAIVITHAKARAMAR MENI’

(Your “Thirumeni” is such that makes me to love you immensely like ocean)

AND SO ON.

 

Azhvars belong to South India.

They have revealed the beautiful divine pasurams on Thirumal (Sriman Narayanan) about him, about his kind benevolent nature etc.,

Their pasurams gives valuble informations and are about various “Archavatharams” found in “Divya desams “ in south India (mostly)

 

Sutras 34 and 35 of Srivachana bhooshanam speak of Archavatharam.

‘VISHYA NIYAMAMAVATHU GUNA POORTHIULLA VIDAME. POORTHIYLLATHUM ARCHAVATHARATHILE.”

“AZHVARS HAVE SURRENDERED TO LORDS OF VARIOUS ARCHAVATHARAMS’.( Archavatharm is complete in exhibiting the characters and nature of the Lord and Azhvars have surrendered to the lord in various places.)

 

The contents of Thiruvaimozhi is explained in this “Thanian”

‘MIKKA IRAI NILAIYUM MEYYA UYIRNILAIYUM

THAKKA NERIYUM THADAIYAKI THOKKIYALUM

OOZVINAIYUM VAAZHVINAIYUM OOTHUM KURUKAIYARKONE

YAAZHINISAI VEDHATHIYAL’

(Thiruvaimozhi(Kurkairkone vedam) is sweet like veena(yaazh) and speaks of nature of Emperuman, nature of jeevathamas who are turmoiling in samsara,the path for redemption,the obstruction for that (fate and resultant lives) .

 

These facts are the same as enshrined in Vedas. They have been abridged into RAHASYATHRAYAM (3 secrets (Thirumanthram, Dwayam and Sarama slokam)

Our Poorvacharyas spent their lives in preaching these rahasyas and Arulicheyals to their sishyas. This was available all. But, it was imparted to only after much thought and experiment to selected persons.

After the advent of Ramanuja, the gate was opened to all those who were eager to have it.

 

‘PANTHARU MARAN PASUMTHAMIZH

AANANDHAM PAYAI MATHAMAYAI

VINDIDA ENKAL RAMANUJA MUNI VEZHAM

MEYMAIKONDA NALVEDHA KOZHUNTHANDAMENTHI

KUVALAYATHE MANDI VENTHENRATHU

VAATHIYARKAL UNGAL VAAZHVU ARRATHE.(Ramanuja Nooranthai 64)

 

(Tender and musical Tamil words of Maran flowed into happy religious philosophy. Enriched with this,our great Ramanuja Muni, like a majestic elephant with a stick hardened with facts of vedic pholosophy. in its trunk, has dawned on Earth. Dear opponents who wish to argue with him have no chance to win over him. )

It is note worthy to mention Sutra 65 of ACHARYA HRUDHYAM here.

‘BHASHYAKARAR ITHUKONDU SOOTHRA VAKYANKAL OTHUNGA VIDUVAR.’(Sri. Ramanuja was able to explain well with the help of Thiruvaimozhi(ITHU kondu) .

 

PROTESTORS!… Opponents! You have no Chance.

Such is strength of sweet tender Tamil verses of Azhvar(s).

Their language is beautiful and has direction in determining the goal.

 

‘THEN’, meaning south direction can afford the meaning beauty and direction also. Can we say like that?

 

Finally, a suggestion. It is not enough to learn Arulicheyals by heart and recite; but the information contained in them should also be learnt, studied and thought over in mind again and again. Emperuman will care for the rest.
