Guest guest
Dear Members, Most of you are doing an excellent job in the way that you are writing your messages. THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES. Some of you still need to be reminded to trim/delete all unnecessary lines below your message as suggested in guideline #2 below. Moderating a group is a volunteer effort and takes quite a bit of time each day. Many moderated messages have to be edited so that they are more easily readable. Some are deleted because the person is trying to sell something or has not followed some of the guidelines below. Even when some selling is there, we allow advetising for books, CDs pertinenet to ayurveda as an exception. We request each member to follow these guidlines while posting: 1] Be courteous. Refrain from personal judgment and argumentative comments. 2] In replying to a message, trim or delete all irrelevant old lines. [if your new message can stand alone, delete everything below your message. If you believe the post that you are replying to must remain attached for some important reason, you may leave it attached; or, better, leave just a line or two attached with the writer's name. Also, below the messages are many lines of administrative information that should be deleted all the way to the bottom of the page.] If you are replying to daily digest, leave only relevant message or just few lines of that message. Often, moderator has to snip a big daily digest properly to leave only relevant reference. Often the relevant reference is delted by , in order to truncate the message. The subject title of relevant message may be copied and pasted into subject field, rather than Re:Digest No. xxxx. has now improved to a "structured" daily digest. All the replies to a particular message appear grouped together at one place to improve redability. It also tells how many relevant replies have appeared so far, so that you can check all for completeness. This grouping is possible, only if original message is replied at group website rather than by "reply" to message from daily digest. Keep subject line unaltered. cannot recognize the reply structure then. Hence you are requested to reply the messages at group website rather than daily digest. When you visit group website you feel the "goup" feeling, with members, old messages, files everything is available at the same place just a click away. On the other hand, when you never visit group website, you are just an onlooker, with less time for interest in ayurveda. Use search facility offered by , to see if your reply is already covered by someother member! Replying from groupwebsite has one more advantage that advertising junk does not trail in your message, as is normal in an email message. Sending a clean message helps those who receive "Individual Emails" delivered to their inbox and those who receive the "Daily Digest" of the messages. So, please trim/delete the unnecessary lines from your post. 3] If the topic changes, change the subject line to reflect the new topic. Be specific in your subject line regarding what you are writing about. That way readers of daily digest know whether they are interested in opening the message. In daily digest, reader can skip to relevant message, if subject line is interesting to him. Writing good title is also an art. Shorter title does not get truncated in message list depicted by . If you just want to say "Thank You," it's best to send that privately to the person. 4] Avoid initiating off-topic (off theme of the group)subjects 5] Avoid soliciting; delete your website URL if you are selling on that website. If your services attract a fee, then too the URL is deemed commercial. Some people have an automatic signature that includes a website URL. Please delete that URL before sending your post so that a moderator doesn't have to do it for you. If the website is purely educational, then occasionally the URL may be included. Similarly, the quotes by philosophers at trailing end of the post should be removed. But if you feel that some quote is very relevant to the post, you can as well retain it. Such a quote is best emphasized in the opening of your message itself. 6] Please read over your message and correct typos and misspelled words. Add capital letters and punctuation so that your message can be easily understood by the reader. Otherwise, the moderator has to edit the post. It is better to prepare a postin MS-Word first, run a spell/grammar check and then copy, paste to . Now also offers spell check for emails. 7) Since our group does not support attachments, copy important part of attachments in main message itself. Further, please refrain posting messages recived as replies to your postings in other lists, as earlier correspondence is missing in this list. Ayurvedaonline members can not get interest in your activities in other lists. If you find a post on other list very useful to our members, you may request the member who posted to re-post the message to our list, after becoming a member at ayurveda. After all, our membership is unrestricted, and messages are kept "public" for benifit of all netizens. Moderators will appreciate your cooperation.
