Guest guest
mARanil mikkum Ore dhEvum vuLadhEA! On the day of svAmi Nam AzvAr thriunakshathiram- vaikAsi visAgam-learned devotees write of him in high praise of him. AdiyEan desired to talk about him not about his pAsuram-s nor of his life hisotry or preachings but quote a pAsuram from ThriuvAimozhi commending about svAmi Nam-AzvAr himself. Now is this possible? one may wonder. AzvAr praises Sriman NArAyaNa and nobody else and if any such praise showered on oneself will only result in self praise? is it not? Well. It is Sriman NArAyaNA the Lord for him. Agreed. For us, Should it not be Sri Nam-AzvAr? One of the pAsuram-s of thriuvAimzohi sung by satakhOpan exalts EmperumAn and declares that is there any other Lord other than Him. The same pAsuram read on a different angle talks high of AzvAr himself. Indeed this is great and we should accept this in toto as if EmperumAn who has crept into AzvAr's heart has spelt out these words. This is from thiruvAimozhi 2-2-3 pAsuram and the final lines are "mAl thanil mikkumOre dhEvum vuLadhEa' However, on the joining of the first two words the 'l' in the 'mAl' becomes 'R' and becomes 'mARanil mikkum Ore dhEvum vuLadhEa' This words 'mAl thanil ' can be noted in the text of PuthUr svAmi of aruLich cheyal the words mARAnil can be obeserved in the text given in the vyAkyAnam of PuthUr svAmi. The point here is this is an incidental pun - not intended by AzvAr but perhaps inteneded by EmepurmAn Himself. As Sri Madhura Kavi points out Is there any other Lord for us other than the one blessed by EmperumAn-Sri Nam-AzvAr-dhEvu mathARiyEan and that is here right from the thriuvAimozhi-p pAsuram mARanil mikkum Ore dhEvum vuLadhEa! adiyEan dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan
