Guest guest
Dear Family, Namaste! The second verse contains the following eight suggestions: 1. Maintain the association of true people 2. Take refuge with devotion in the Supreme Divinity 3. With all your capacity try to befriend the Universe 4. Very quickly renounce the fruits of your labors 5. Whenever possible seek out the company of the true and knowledgeable people 6. Serve the sandals of their Lotus feet 7. Ask them even one letter of the knowledge of Brahman 8. Listen to the great words of wisdom from the Vedas The third suggestion is intriguing. How does one befriend the Universe? The verse highlights the importance of the company of the wise and a reverential attitude when we approach them. We need to cultivate an intense desire to meet Saints and Sadhus and learn from them as much as possible. Take time out of our busy lives. Today we chanted the Siva Kavach and the 108 names of Siva. The armor of Siva is simple, only seven verses. Yet Verse 2 proclaims, "Not even hundreds or thousands of mouths, nor the Gods, nor even Maheswara Himself, possess the capacity to proclaim the qualities of this armor. What a blessing to be able to chant this Kavach! Verse Six says "If one wears such an armor at the base of the throat or on the right arm, he will be released from the bonds of all sin, of this there is no doubt" Does anyone know what it means to "wear the armor"? with love srini

My guess is simply, if you walk the talk (of the scriptures), you cannot help but to wear the armor of protection from the temptations of sin. just my guess.... love and light! sal. Guest guest
How does one befriend the Universe? We do this by taking on the attitude of a friend in every interaction with every being and every thing. If we examine, we often find we are not a friend, but, an antagonist, a victim, an enemy, etc. Does anyone know what it means to "wear the armor"? Wearing the armor might have some very specific scriptural meaning, i will try and dig for the universal meaning. To be truly detached is to be armored. We are then no longer bonded or fused to the effects of the body, emotions, "the bonds of all sins" etc. The bonds of all sins are in fact our sense of being the active participant, wherein we are forced to take the effect of actions -- whereas in the greater view, God is the only Actor. The armored effect is the spiritual state of detachment -- you are no longer vulnerable to suffering in the same way. What would appear to be a devastating harm, emotional or physical, now appears remote -- the "you" that was formerly touched, or harmed, is now permeated by a greater, blissfully impersonal, awareness. The result for the devotee is Protection, or being armored. She is now residing in a greater Beingness than the mind-filled, always vulnerable, individual self. , "srini_sadhu" <srini_sadhu wrote: > > Dear Family, > > Namaste! > > The second verse contains the following eight suggestions: > > 1. Guest guest
Dear Srini, thank you for raising these interesting questions and for the opportunity to exchange views; as far as trying to befriend the universe is concerned, to me this means that you try not to see anyone or anything as an enemy or as something that is opposed to you. In practice, this means I try smiling a lot and try to 'radiate' goodwill:) Some days I am more succesful in this than other days, but I am trying. about 'wearing the kavacam': I would very much like to know the answer to this question too; does it mean that you write the mantras on a piece of paper and wear it on your body, or does it mean that, once you have put on the armour by reciting the verses with attention, you wear them on your throat or right arm if you demonstrate their protection in the way you speak or communicate (throat) and act (right arm)?
