Guest guest
Hi All, I am just joining this post. I have been practicing ashtanga for almost 1 year now and I really love it! About 3 weeks ago I cracked one of my ribs during a bad coughing fit from bronchitis. I have not practiced since and I am now considering when and how to resume. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Lauren
Guest guest
Hi- I cracked my ninth rib in transfering from supta Kormasana to tittibasana- I laid of vinyasa for a while, but after a few weeks I began to do vinyasa without urhdva Muka or up dog- instead I did a low cobra. It worked veery well, and in the way of astanga it became an opening. It made me take my back bends to my mid spine and higher rather than having them only be in my low back. Twists were harder- I kept away from them until my rib was competely healed. I also was given a suport band to wear by my doctor. That helped speed the healing process along. It is always kind of fun to say that I go my only broken bone ever- in yoga. mac --- dalazach <laurenkeaton (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> wrote: > Hi All, > > I am just joining this post. Guest guest
I have a good deal of experience with cracked ribs. My daughter is a division I collegiate rower who has asthma and allergies. She has had two bouts of cracking ribs, each following a season of competition which ended with coughing spasms from allergies and asthma. The coughing will lead to cracking a rib if the rib is already repeatedly stressed from repetitive workouts. The only way to detect a hairline rib fracture is with a bone scan -- not inexpensive, but the only way to tell for sure. Healing usually takes six weeks or so. You can't exercise while healing. This may not be what you want to hear; and of course I don't know anything about your condition but it sounds very familiar. I don't what asana might contribute most to stressing the ribs. A good teacher could give you some insight on that point. Jim Louisville, KY --- dalazach <laurenkeaton (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> wrote: > Hi All, > > I am just joining this post.
