Guest guest
Om Amriteswaryai Namaha! Well, I just have to take the time to tell all of you the story of our wedding with Amma, as it has been the greatest, most miraculous event of my life. As you all know, we didn't know if there would be a Devi Bhava this weekend or not, and all of my family had already purchased plane tickets, so there was a lot of stress about that. About a month ago, I spoke with Dayamrita Swami, who told me to change my plans for the 2nd DB, and not to count on there being a first. This worried me even more, and I could not bring myself to change all of the plans. I ended up writing two notes on identical pieces of paper: one said, "Daughter, I will marry you on the 11th." The other said "My child, make arrangements for the 19th." I tossed on top of Amma's Devi Bhava sari (my wedding sari), and prayed for Her guidance, and for the faith to trust in the result. I closed my eyes and chose one, and it was the 11th. So I went ahead with the plans despite Dayamrita's warning. On tuesday night, Anaghan and I went up for darshan. While Amma was hugging me, Anaghan asked her, "Amma, will you marry us the first Devi Bhava, not the second?" This was our clever way of asking Amma if there even was a first Devi Bhava, since nobody knew! She said, "Okay, okay," in his ear, but since I didn't hear I asked her too. "Amma, will you please marry us the first Devi Bhava?" I was distraught. She looked at me and laughed, "It's okay. Understand. DON'T WORRY!!" The last part she sort of hollered at me and everyone laughed. There have been several times in my life when Amma has told this child "Don't worry," and after this whole experience, I have made it my personal sadhana. Kripaprana thought that perhaps Amma meant the second one anyway, as if there was only one DB, it would be the first, technically, so she asked us to speak to Ramakrishna Swami, who laughed when he heard our story and said that it seemed that Amma made a decision, and we were the first to know! LOL So the planning commenced. My mom had flown in, and we put together a beautiful reception on saturday. Our entire community came together to support and celebrate with us, and I saw both sides of my family together, having a great time, singing the holy names and rejoicing. Awesome. Friday night (backtracking), my dad, step-mom, sister and step brother flew in, and we took them to the ashram. Over the three days together, we watched these sceptics melt in Amma's presence. A year ago, my step mom had worried that I was in a cult. Today, when we took them out to breakfast, they were all talking about how special and incredible Amma is, and how grateful they were that they got to share that experience, and that from now on they will see Amma in Seattle. The Devi Bhava ended up being very small and short for some reason, so the wedding happened around 8am instead of 11ish, as we had anticipated. I barely had enough time to get ready and have my sari wrapped. My mom slept through her alarm, and there was all this confusion because her parents thought she was with us, we thought she was with them, etc. She was back at the hotel asleep, so my grandfather raced back to get her. At that point, I sent my whole family up for darshan. My dad looked dazed and confused as he got up from his hug. My grandmother (mom's side) got a mantra, and my little sister is now totally into Amma, and got a ton of pictures and cd's. Finally my mom came, with her sari on backwards and inside out, and we found her someone to help her wrap it, which was such a comedy. Then they started lining us up for the wedding, and suddenly I realized that my Dad, step mom, step brother and little sister had all disappeared! We sent out a search party, and at the last second Anaghan found them all seated right next to Amma, totally absorbed and radiant! We all got in line and went up on the stage. The ceremony itself I can only describe as the most beautiful moment of my life. The joy, peace and pure love was immeasurable. Amma was so affectionate. It was great to have Swami Ramakrishnananda at my side, I could feel his support. We could feel the love and support of every single person there, the joy and light. It seemed that heaven and earth were celebrating. It was so precious and so, so sweet, and we savored each moment. My favorite part was when the ring wouldn't go on my finger. I hadn't had any water, because I didn't want to have to go to the bathroom after the sari was wrapped, so my hands were swolen. Anaghan, in his innocent and playful way, licked my finger and the ring slid right on! Amma was hysterical, cracking up and teasing us. It was all just so amazing. It seemed like the whole universe was glowing, and that Amma was not a human at all, but a great deity appearing before us in full glory, "Dazzling like a million suns," as the Gita says. It was all to wonderful to ever capture in words. Every single thing I ever worried about, every detail, not only turned out just fine, but far exceeded even my wildest dreams in its grace and grandeur. It was all such a lesson in faith and surrender and trust in the Satguru. Every aspect of my life has been enriched through this. All of my relationships have deepened. Family rifts have been healed, closed minds have been opened, grace, grace, grace. At the end, during "Amma Amma Taye," as Amma was holding the petals, there was a sudden power outage. Everything went out, and the energy skyrocketed as we all sang louder and with even more devotion. Suddenly it came back on, the musicians hadn't missed a beat. It was really powerful. Joy, joy, joy. I'll never, ever be able to express what this was like for me. Thank you all for your prayers and blessings. Jai Ma! love, Prajna (Mrs. Vieira)! P.S. I uploaded a few pictures to our photos file.... http://ph.Ammachi/photos/browse/aa52?c= "Children, all of spirituality is contained in that one word: Awareness." - Amma
