"Of the Adityas I am Vishnu, of lights I am the radiant sun, of the Maruts I am Marici, and among the stars I am the moon."

Presently the greatest effort of modern science is to find new unlimited resources of clean energy as replacement of oil.

So far, they believe that the smallest particle, the neutrino, hits an atom and thereby energy is set free and the Sun is powered by such a fusion of hydrogen or helium.

Unfortunately all experiments, like cold fusion, didnt work out yet.

The hunt for high energy neutrinos from the cosmos has just started and in the near future we will hopefully learn new interesting facts about our fascinating universe.

Devotees might not be surprised very much to learn that scientists don't know exactly what makes sunshine. They know that the engine behind is fusion in which the nuclei of atoms are forced together in the Sun's core, new substances are formed, and tremendous energy is released.

Scientists believe the Sun radiates as much energy every second as 100 billion tons of exploding dynamite. The action starts at the core, where the temperature can reach 28 million degrees Fahrenheit (16 million degrees Kelvin). Such intense heat forces the nuclei of atoms to fuse into heavier atoms in a process called thermonuclear fusion.

Besides light, fusion also creates tiny basic particles called neutrinos, which have no electrical charge and almost no mass. In recent years, researchers have built novel detectors -- in underground mines, under Antarctic ice, and at the bottom of the sea -- to detect and study neutrinos, both from the Sun and from extrasolar, unknown cosmic sources.

Bahcall and his colleagues, Carlos Pena-Garay of the Institute for Advanced Study and Concha Gonzales-Garcia from Stony Brook University, reached their conclusion by examining results from several recent solar neutrino detection efforts and laboratory reactor experiments:

"Neutrinos interact so weakly with matter that they can easily get out of the center of the Sun and reach the Earth," Bahcall explained. "Physicists use neutrinos to look inside the Sun in much the same way that your doctor uses ultrasound or X-rays to look inside your body and diagnose what is going on there."

Sounds pretty much the like wellknown phrase, we're just about to produce live from chemicals.

In any case, if some Vaishnavas find the portion in the Vedas where it explains how to produce unlimited clean energy from "cold fusion" or any fusion, the Nobelprize jury is already waiting::rolleyes:

Neutrinos

The neutrino is an elementary particle, which was postulated in 1930 by Wolfgang Pauli, 1945 Nobel Laureate in Physics, in order to solve an energy crisis in nuclear physics. Scientists had difficulty finding energy in radioactive decays and Pauli suggested the existence of a particle which he believed was carrying away the missing energy. But it took some years before the neutrino was discovered. It was Clyde Cowen and Frederick Reines who first detected and identified this particle in 1965. For his contribution, Reines was awarded the 1995 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Amazing, energy all around from the sun and and yet there is so much anxiety over how to avoid the impending "energy crisis." Even if such is found it won't be released to the world without a plan in place on how to exploit it for profit. This is the plane of exploitation afterall.

But for the transcendental devotee there is no lack of clean energy. He has solved that problem. He knows that the sunlight is just a reflection of the brahmajyoti which is an emanation from the form of Sri Krsna. The trick is to take full advantage of the illuminating and energizing properties of this eternal and unlimited energy source one must first give up all desires to exploit it for selfish temporary gain. That we of this world are loath to do. We are caught in a quandry.

Even if we learn how to milk the sun for all it's worth, a time will come when our sun sees it's death.

This is the problem for the eternal soul trying to draw it's life energy from any external temporary source. The soul will always outlive the source.

End to global warming? The 6+ billion karmis (dvi-pada pashus) of earth aspire to very important higher standards of sense gratification. This takes a lot of energy. If fossil fuels continue to be the key source of energy the waste product, carbon dioxide, will produce chaotic changes in the climate. Unfortunately Vaishnavas havent yet understood this madness and are therefore nothing but participating in this plunder of planet earth, e.g. Vaishnavas spending more time in kerosene fueled means of travel than preaching in natural environment. While US thinktanks are presently bussy to work to full capacity to develop more efficient high tec explosives to subdue the Islamic world a Chinese scientist announces of knowing how the Sun produces its energy.

Thermonuclear fusion reactor test succeeds

Luan Shanglin xinhuanet.com – September 29, 2006

Chinese scientists on Thursday successfully conducted their first test of an experimental thermonuclear fusion reactor, which replicates the energy generating process of the sun.

The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) fusion reactor, nicknamed "artificial sun", was tested at the Institute of Plasma Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Hefei, capital city of east China's Anhui Province.

During the experiment, deuterium and tritium atoms were forced together at a temperature of 100 million Celsius.

"At that temperature, the super heated plasma, which is neither a gas, a liquid nor a solid, should begin to give off its own energy," scientists explained.

The first tests lasted nearly three seconds, and generated an electrical current of 200 kiloamperes, Wan Yuanxi, general manager of EAST, told Xinhua.

The experiments were continuing, he said.

The device is planned to eventually create a plasma lasting 1,000 consecutive seconds, the longest a fusion reactor has ever run.

Wan said the deuterium extracted from one liter of seawater could produce energy equivalent to that generated by burning 300 liters of gasoline thanks to the fusion technology.

If the thermonuclear fusion technology is commercialized, it may provide energy to mankind for more than 100 million years, Wan said.

Li Jiangang, director of the Institute of Plasma Physics, said the results of the test met the expectations of scientists and signified a great breakthrough in the research of thermonuclear fusion.

"That means we lead all our competitors by at least a decade," said Li. "The breakthrough will make it possible for mankind to harness a safe, clean and endless source of energy."

The EAST is an upgrade of China's first-generation Tokamak device and the first of its kind in operation in the world, said Chinese scientists.

The Institute of Plasma Physics spent eight years and 200 million yuan (25 million U.S. dollars) on building the experimental reactor.

The columniform device, made with special stainless steel, is about 12 meters high and weighs 400 tons.

Compared with similar devices in other countries, EAST cost the least money and time to be built and is the first in operation, said Li.

The EAST would be the most advanced thermonuclear fusion reactor in the world for the next ten years, said Dr. Gary Jackson from General Atomics of the United States, who participated in the research.

Unlike traditional nuclear fission reactors, which split atoms to create energy and produce dangerous radioactive waste, the EAST uses nuclear fusion to compress atoms at extremely high temperatures to generate energy that would produce very little pollution.

Scientists theorize that a fully functional fusion reactor would provide cheaper, safer, cleaner and endless energy and reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels.

The EAST is part of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), which is the largest international program dedicated to experiments in thermonuclear fusion.

In 2003, China joined the 4.6-billion-euro ITER which was originally initiated by the United States and Russia. The first operation of ITER might be in 2016.

Among the six partners involved in this ambitious plan, the European Union will cover 50 percent of the total budget. The remaining five, the United States, Japan, Russia, the Republic of Korea and China, will pay 10 percent each.

"The EAST is the only prototype nearest to the ITER and, thus, it can serve ITER advanced research in terms of engineering technology and physics," said Wan.

But the most optimistic estimation on first commercialization of the ITER said it needs at least half a century.

Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Xu Guanhua said earlier that as China is short of energy, global research endeavors for energy supply solutions meet the strategic interest of the country.
