Guest guest
Ego is the problem according to many of the Eastern belief systems. The big issue. We must wipe out the ego, we must get rid of the ego. We must do this and that in order to advance, to the ego, or we will have problems. Self denial, self flagellation, exercises to rid us of the taint of ego. Yes I'm simplifying. I could go on and on. Not everyone takes such a view toward the ego. I do not. The ego is a part of who I am as a person. I see him as a younger version of myself, a perpetual child , my inner child and I let him have his say. Sometimes. As I would any child. The Huna religion (Polynesian) observes the ego as the first self, the uniheepeelee. The first self is given certain responsibilities and is allowed to complete them without hindrance from the Uhane, the second self, who is trying to become an Aumakua, or the high self. The ego is spoken too gently as one would a child and rewarded and loved. In this way, we can advance with a loving and considerate approach to ourselves without the idea of something inside us needing to be excised or controlled to the point of obliteration. Ego will learn and will follow instructions. I would suggest treating him or her with kindness and love allowing her to grow into the middle self they wish to become. As with kids you don't let them run rampant and you put definite limitations on their activities but you love them and they love you for it. Control, from the view of a parent is a very nurturing and helpful, effective way to teach the ego, our inner child. - blessings to you - chrism
Guest guest
Dear Akkama, As you continue the practice of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, many changes occur. It is wise that you are taking the time to just sit and watch what is coming up. As you strengthen the nervous system, body and breath you DO become powerful. Having a powerful and well developed navel center may appear as ego to some. Your words become powerful, you become aware that your powerful words are affecting others, and then you notice the powerful words are not "yours", you just sit and watch. Let the changes percolate in you and then you will notice that you are that selfless love Yogiji is talking about. Don't analyze the grace out of every experience but do watch it. Keep peeling away the layers. Remember that the mind has many layers. The ego is only one layer. Don't look at ego as the enemy, befriend it, we need it! We just don't need it to run our life! If we keep trying to witness the death of our ego, that is ego! Be careful about viewing a part of you as not desirable. It sounds as if everything is working perfectly for you, how wonderful that you can observe the negativity turn back to energy. Along this path many amazing things happen as you are polished and made to shine! Keep up! Shine bright! Gururavi
Guest guest
Dearest Akkama: When we learn to conquer negative emotions and we start feeling good about our self we actually build self esteem. That is positive. If you feel you have too much ego, you must be getting a sense that something is out of balance. Without knowing what it is you are experiencing I can only draw from my own experience that by paying attention to the pain and hurt and judgments I carry around (including judgments such as: "I am so good now I can dispel negative thoughts and emotions!") It brings me back to my senses and I feel rather humble. Humility (not forced) comes naturally from recognizing our projections and owning them and then asking to see the truth. The loving truth is the antidote to EGO. I hope this helps! Blessings, Awtar S. Rochester, NY
Guest guest
observe how animals in nature seem to have no ego. they may have access to a form of genetic memory known to us as instinct. is it possible for us humans to access this memory of ourselves? of course the ego sees this possibility as terrifying. and what might non-egoic thought accomplish? -steve f
