Ganesh,

I have said in the end that ther eis no bias but want it to becommon words for benifit for all

and like u pointed the correct tamil word of Gochara I had said same in the 1st part of this mail iu canread each region in TN has variations SO use regular words, that is all.

Tamil and Malyalam are not alone dravidian as they claim the include Telugu, Kanada, Tulu, Konkani, Saurastrian etc.

but Malayalam has a lot of sanskrit words so too Kanada, Telugu, the star names, rasi names or religious words are same. Weh I asked to peroforma a archana for U. Bhadra one priest there is no star by that name. so when I told him one before Revathi he got it that is richness or lack of awarness of a standard.

and there is star (Uttara Bhadra?) can this be said in anyother part of India no.

and how cares about values in Tirukural [in TN, htye may memoriese it max] can u get into an auto in TN pay ur fare by meter, u get the choicest tamil words if u don't pay to their demands. meters exist for show

1.i think you are getting wrong with the words...i suppose ...

transliteration of single individual from tamil to english does not

render the language in poor taste...

2. you're getting confused with tamil and malayalam words which more

or less sound similiar with tamil words...in fact all dravidian

words are inter related atleast on phonetic basis...

3. personally i feel you are totally biased with tamil and

tamilian ...for reasons best known to you only..i've seen some of

your mails recently ....

for your example...the right tamil word for gochara is graha

sara...but the srinivasan has written it as cochara...it shows his

conversion to english of the same word used by all but not the

correct tamil word...in fact many of the people in tamilnadu has

forgotten the usage of beautiful tamil and malayalam words...which

has its roots in sanskrit...

I am not a tamilian for your info (maharashtrian living in mumbai)

but i know the richness of tamil language and its depth in

literature and i consider it as one of the oldest considering the

time thirukkural is written...

finally what is important is understanding the message conveyed by

the writer and not the words...

Now you can take it whichever way you want...i felt like writing

this...to you as a good friend...

best wishes

Dear Kumar,

really quick in reply..thanks

1. You're trying to link the ignorance of other languages/words

with the present generation of tamil without knowing their fight

against imposition of hindi (they took sanskrit also in their fight)

in tamilnadu say from 1966 onwards...infact the present dravidaian

movement gained popularity due to this standardisation and

imposition of sanskrit and indirectly hindi...till then it was very

much prevalent in all parts of tamilnadu...so no wonder this present

generation fails to understand...you need to talk to them in their

language only which is the correct way also ..no offence intended

2. when i said dravidian languages..it includes entire south like

tamil, malayalam, telugu and kannada...tulu and konkani is little

bit related but not entirety...but surely not marathi and gujarati

(saurashtrian) ..you may find these there due to samrat shivaji was

one time the ruler of tamilnadu and his representative is stationed

in thanjavur, where the famous chola big temple is situated behind

it you can still find his representative living with all state

respects...Raja saroboji (shivaji representative) was instrumental

in developing and promoting all languages and you can see the links

of marathi and gujarathi getting in the tamil..(Incidentally

saroboji has collected wonderful materials on jyotish and among them

the old purva parasharyam is the best classic...though out of print

and out of stock also...it is in sanskrit)

3. if you read old tamil and malayalam classics, you will find it is

nothing but sanskrit in hard form and if you are master in sanskrit

you can very well pick up these two languages...very soon.

4. coming to your point of other parts of india...if i go to

varanasi or delhi or even in mumbai, if i tell them to perform

archana saying my star in tamil...the situation will be the

same...does it mean anything...nothing. It means only our lack of

appreciation of the local customs and traditions..languages...

5. I consider your writings abt values in Thirukkural, little bit

sarcassitic as i still know many people who lives as per the

principles outlined in Thirukkural and it is matter of personal

choice...these kind of examples are present in all societies...

best wishes
