Regarding the doubt of Devaraj kandadai swamy.

 

Sri.Azhakiya manavala perumal nayanar compares Thrivaimozhi with Bhagavat Gita on 10 points( Nithayathvam etc.,) and concludes that both speak on the same lines. Yet, Thiruvaimozhi scores a point over Bhagavat Gita. This is explained in the next Sutra. 190 (Acharya Hirudhayam).

 

AH.190 ATHU THATVA UPADESAM. ITHU THATVA DHARSI VACHANAM. (ATHU ( Bhavat Gita ) speaks of Thathva(facts)

ITHU(Thiruvaimozhi) is the exposition of Saint Nammazhvar.

 

In what way Thiruvaimozhi is considered as better exponent?

 

In the first place, Lord Krishna himself expounded Bhagavat Gita to Arjuna who was in a confused state. Karma Gna and Bhakti yogas were expounded to him and he remained at the same state or was still more confused. So, as a last resort, Lord Krishna advised him through”Sarama slokam”to surrender to him in” toto” and he will look after him.

 

This exposition of Thathvas(facts) about HIM and other matters related was expounded by the Lord himself. This will not be appealing to common people and will give room as boast of self-appraisal.

 

On the other hand, Thiruvaimozhi (though the Lord revealed it himself to Nammazhvar) is the revelations of Nammazhvar, a saint to one and all.

Lord Krishna himself has advised in B.G.4.34, “Approach learned saints with due respect (Namaskar, asking questions in humble manner etc.,) and they will teach you facts on “Atma Vishyam”. Such advices of Saints are reliable.

 

Again, the teachings of Lord, in Bhavat Gita will not be appealing to commoners.

But, Nammazhvar explains in a nice way.

MANNUM VINNUM ELLAM UDAN UNNDA NAM KANNAN KAN; ALLATHU ILLAIYOR KANNE..(There is no other eye just like our Lord Kannan’s eye. He is the one who has eaten the sky and earth at one stroke.) (TVM.2.2.1).

KARUTHTHA MANAM ONRUM VENDA; KANNAN ALLAL THEIVAM ILLAI.(Do not have a closed mind. There is no other God like Kannan.)(TVM 5.2.7)

‘KANNAN ALLAL ILLAI KANDEER CHARAN, THINNAMAKA NUM UDAMAI UNDEL AVAN ADI CHERTHU UYMINO’(There is no protection other than Kannan. If you believe something surely as yours, surrender them and yourself at his (lotus) feet. You are saved.(TVM.9.1.10)

 

Nammazhvar preachs just like a neutral one, with out any body asking for it, and this will be appealing to all.

So, instead of toiling with so many duties (Sadhana Bhakti) surrender to Lord’s Lotus feet. He is ready (Siddhopayam) always to protect you and to redeem you..This is the crux of Thiruvaimozhi.

 

Does not Thiruvaimozhi score a point over Bhagavat Gita?
