In Mother India, the answer is "yes". The cow is sacred or holy,

hence Hindus do not eat beef. Cows lay around on roads everywhere in

smaller towns and villages but traffic weaves around them and avoid

hitting them at all costs. Some Hindus eat chicken since not all are

strict vegetarians and some do it for health reasons.
